Location: Scottsbluff, Nebraska

Position Overview

The Quality Assurance Supervisor is responsible for ensuring smooth functioning of food safety and quality management systems and process at Scottsbluff, NE, Torrington, WY, and Nebraska shipping terminals. The QA Supervisor will be responsible for audit and regulatory compliance, assuring company standards are maintained, and product integrity is preserved.

This position requires maintaining existing quality assurance standards and providing constant recommendations for improvements in the controls for storage, packaging, and shipping of sugar and finished goods.

The QA Supervisor shall assist in developing and maintaining quality and sanitation procedures and policies with Corporate Quality and function as an information source to all departments when quality issues occur.

The Quality Assurance Supervisor reports to the Corporate Quality Manager and the Scottsbluff Warehouse Manager.

Essential Functions Responsibilities

  • Ensure conformance to all applicable product and food standards (e.g., FDA, HACCP, GFSI, BRCGS).
  • Ensure compliance and support for company quality policies and procedures.
  • Be one of the main drivers behind a good quality culture.
  • Resolve quality issues at Scottsbluff, Torrington, terminals, and any other areas required by Corporate Quality.
  • Evaluate and take corrective actions with regards to product nonconformance, audit findings, HACCP deviations, etc.
  • Ensure monitoring and production equipment is compliant with all certifications, customer requirements, and internal requirements.
  • Assist in the performing of investigative analysis, assign root cause, and determination of corrective actions regarding complaints and non-conformances.
  • Regularly provide quality training and development for all new and existing employees.
  • Maintain the plant quality management system by updating food safety and food defense plans as required.
  • Perform regular internal audits, traceability exercises, and mock recalls.
  • Ensure all corporate assigned quality targets and performance indicators are achieved and implement systems to drive the overall reduction of customer complaints.
  • Hold monthly quality meetings to provide the plant management team with quality updates.
  • Supervise the sanitation staff; schedule and coordinate all sanitation personnel to ensure compliance with sanitation standards.
  • Actively work with the Factory Manager and the Warehouse Manager to maintain a clean and tidy facility/facilities.

Skill & Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or associate degree in food science or related field is preferred.
  • 2-3 years of Food Safety and/or Quality Assurance experience within the food industry field is preferred.
  • Relevant quality line control experience, including food safety, food security, and HACCP.
  • Understanding of standard laboratory methods and testing practices.
  • Experience with external regulatory audits and GFSI audits.
  • Proficient in Excel, Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, LIMS/WIMS, SAP.
  • Manages time effectively, exercises good judgment in setting priorities to complete tasks to meet deadlines with strong attention to detail and ability to balance and maintain workload.
  • Demonstrates professional manner, as well as high level of interpersonal skills.
  • Problem-solver, solution and team-oriented and works collaboratively to achieve team goals.
  • Self-starter and possesses the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • HACCP, PCQI and Food Defense certified or be willing to obtain the certifications within a timely manner.
  • Must be highly organized, handle pressure well, and understand the importance of deadlines. They must also know how to relate to people in a variety of situations, be highly trustworthy, and use good judgment.
