This internship will give you the opportunity to learn valuable, transferable skills that can be applied to almost any industry and an experience that will set you apart from your peers in the job market.


Start: Fall Semester 2024

Pay: $18 per hour

Hours: 10- 20 hours per week (4 hours of active engagement with the mentor/6 - 16 hours of offline study/work)

Number of Positions: One (1) per semester


Responsibilities: Participate in training and assist a mentor in real-world project execution

Training Topics

·       A simplified explanation of ISO 9001:2015 requirements and why businesses want it.

·       How to develop business processes, procedures, and documentation aligned to global business standards for any industry.

·       Developing and controlling technical documents.

·       Applying ISO 9001 methods to engineering design and development projects.

·       How to plan and execute a stress-free audit for small and large businesses.

·       Effective business communication and etiquette that is best learned through experience.

·       How to apply global best business practices to companies that provide services and product manufacturers.

·       Technical writing techniques that can be applied to grant writing, government contracts, and any compliance requirement.


Projects (May vary based on training outcomes and capabilities)

·       Demonstrate your knowledge of ISO 9001 terminology and the benefits of compliance through practical application.

·       Identify and create technical business documentation based on ISO 9001.

·       Develop a company Quality Manual aligned to ISO 9001.

·       Identify opportunities for improvement in existing technical documents

·       Create an audit checklist that will make it easy on the auditor and stress-free for the client.

·       Observe a quality management system development project through job shadowing.

·       Participate in a mock ISO 9001 audit as the auditor and the auditee.

·       Develop your resume or professional social media profile to showcase your experience and knowledge.

·       Apply learned techniques to grant writing and responses to a government request for proposal (RFP).


Qualifications: MUST BE A STUDENT AT THE UNIVERSITY OF NEVADA LAS VEGAS (UNLV)

Education Level: Undergraduate seniors, graduate students, students preparing to graduate

Areas of Study: Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Aerospace), Industrial Technology, STEM fields, Manufacturing Technology, Quality Assurance, Business, Marketing, Performance Improvement, Organizational Management

Career Interests: A desire to help manufacturing, aerospace, Government, international companies, or service-oriented organizations with strategic goals of performance improvement and increasing their competitive edge.

Learning Ability: Capable of learning virtually and in-person with a live instructor

Technical Setup: Access to a private space with a computer, microphone, camera, phone, and WIFI

Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills



POST-INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

After successfully completing the program, the intern may have several pathways to consider while pursuing their long term career interests.


1.    Contract your services to Advantage Quality Professionals, LLC (AQP)

·         Assist AQP’s with quality management system development, technical writing, document review, and proofreading.

·         Assist Lead Auditors during pre-certification audits and write reports that provide valuable insights and benefits to the client.

·         Assist AQP in developing a marketing strategy to expand the business, establish branding, and create a social media presence.

2.    Expedite your professional development to launch your career faster

·       Achieve the ISO 9001 Internal Auditor Credential to enhance your qualifications and marketability.

·       Assist AQP in grant research, grant applications, and proposal writing for Government contracts.

PROGRAM PARTICIPATION & PROGRESS ASSESSMENT

Participation Requirements

  • The Intern must participate and actively engage during scheduled meetings.


Progress Check-Ins

  • The mentor and intern will have progress check-ins after each milestone. These reviews will assess:
  • Interest: Whether the intern remains interested in continuing the program.
  • Capabilities: The intern’s ability to meet the program’s requirements and perform assigned tasks.
  • Next Steps: Decisions regarding the next phase of the internship based on performance and interest.


Program Termination

  • Either the mentor or the intern may choose to end the program at any time without any penalties. This ensures flexibility and respects the interests and circumstances of both parties.


Skills Verification

  • The effectiveness of the training will be verified through skills demonstration conducted by the mentor. The intern must demonstrate their acquired skills to progress in the program.
