Under limited supervision, performs weld inspections, dimensional inspections, spark testing, positive material identification, and receipt inspections. The specific work assignment may include duties or activities that assist and support management in one or more of the following functional areas:
Perform welding inspections and various nondestructive tests and inspections
Report inspection and test results to management
Use probe and laser type computer measuring equipment & hand tool M&TE
Perform high quality-level receipt inspections to ensure material traceability
Provide input for and implement inspection and testing plans for products
Use procedures for the quality control of products and services
Implement authorized corrective actions to resolve product issues
Ensure that the final product satisfies the product requirements and meet end-user expectations
Spot areas for improvement to enhance the product's efficiency
Working Conditions
Work in an office and fabrication shop at an indoor manufacturing facility. May also work at off-project sites representing the organization at various types of locations throughout the community for business purposes. Potential exposure to equipment movement hazards, dangerous chemicals/solvents or very low level x-ray radiation generating equipment if proper safety procedures are not followed.
Ability to perform sedentary to light work, exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally (any exertion of force/lifting greater than 45 pounds requires usage of a two person “buddy system”), non-repetitive, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly, repetitive; performing such activities as lifting, lowering, carrying, pushing, pulling, standing, walking, grasping, kneeling, stooping, reaching.
Ability to generate reports including regular computer usage.
Required Experience
High School diploma, Associate’s degree, or Bachelor’s degree with a minimum 2-4 years of inspection experience is required. Typical experience ranges from 2-6 years.
Required Skills And Qualifications
AWS Certified Welding Inspector
Experience with inspecting welds (visual and/or other forms of nondestructive inspections or testing)
Experience using precision measuring tools (computer assisted or hand tools)
Ability to read and understand procedures, blueprints & procurement documents
Ability to read and understand Federal, State, and construction Codes, Standards and regulations
Good math skills (familiar with regular use of fractions, decimals, and metric)
Experience with basic PC skills to include Microsoft software
Excellent interpersonal verbal and written communication skills
Exemplary attention to detail
