Box is looking for a seasoned professional to join the Communications team as a senior media strategist and driver of executive communications and proactive PR to increase brand awareness. The role will report directly to the Senior Director of Communications and work closely with Box’s cofounder/CEO, CTO, and other members of the senior leadership team to develop strategic content, manage and build key media relationships and work to tell trend and feature stories with top-tier press.

What You'll Do

In this this role, you will collaborate with the entire communications team, developing media strategies to advance Box’s positions on industry issues (such as AI), and craft messaging and positioning around key company priorities. You will drive communications activities and will partner closely with the communications, brand, product marketing, business development, and executive leadership teams at Box.

  • Identify and cultivate strategic media relationships
  • Craft, pitch, and drive story ideas and content to business, technology and broadcast reporters and B2B influencers to drive coverage
  • Draft and edit press releases, pitches, briefing documents, media summaries, and more
  • Lead the creation of strategic content — including keynote presentations, Op-Eds/bylines, written and video content, blogs, storylines, company statements, FAQs, talking points and more
  • Drive positioning and messaging for major company initiatives, and responses to key issues and industry developments
  • Provide strategic communications counsel and coaching to c-level executives (including CEO) and Box spokespeople, including speaking and media training and interview prep
  • Build Box's bench of expert media spokespeople, including utilizing full suite of comms tools — including PR, social, strategic content, and more
  • Track, analyze, and report media coverage and other results

Who You Are

You should also be passionate about media relations, comfortable working with senior executives, and a very strong writer. We’re looking for an experienced professional with experience in media training, external speaking, and content development (i.e. op-eds, keynote presentations, videos, bylines), as well as a deep interest in AI and how it will impact business, public policy, and culture. If you’re the right candidate, you’ll have established media relationships, be comfortable with ambiguity, and be ready to hit to ground the running.

Required Skills

  • BA/BS degree or equivalent
  • 5+ years experience in Communications, Public Relations, Public Affairs
  • Experience working closely with senior executive leaders and partners to develop messaging and positioning, craft storylines, talking points and content
  • Excellent media relations background and strong media relationships; successful history working on feature stories, profiles, executive Q&As and contributed content
  • Experience managing executive engagements at conferences and events
  • Strong business acumen, analytical ability and outstanding written and oral communications skills
  • Experience leading the development of creative assets and content
  • Sharp eye for detail, great writer and proven project management skills
  • Flexible - you have a demonstrated ability to prioritize and reprioritize tasks
  • No ego - everyone pitches in to get the job done, even if it isn't in this JD

  • Enterprise software experience
  • Former reporter or member of the media
