The Division of Administration provides overall leadership and administrative support for all Divisions. The Division includes the Office of Director, Communications, Fiscal, Human Resources, IT, Legal and Legislative Affairs.

Commerce is currently operating under a hybrid schedule that may incorporate both teleworking and in-person office hours. Employees must be able to report to the office when requested by management &/or for their initial job training. This position will have an office at the Riffe Center in downtown Columbus as well as an office at the State Fire Marshal's office in Reynoldsburg, OH.

What You'll Do: Under direction of the Chief and Deputy Chief Communications Officer:

  • Plans, directs, and administers all public information within the Division of the State Fire Marshal's office (SFM)
  • Plans and executes the State Fire Marshal's Hall of fame ceremony & Fire Marshal Festival.
  • Responsible for public relations, social media, & paid marketing efforts for the SFM office.
  • Advises & consults with agency director & staff regarding public relations aspects for SFM; serves as a writer & editor for SFM (e.g., develops news releases to media outlets, talking points for Division policy, speeches for leadership, emails from leadership, miscellaneous internal communications, industry trade publication op-eds, content for brochures, social media posts, & various other publication styles)
  • Sets up conferences & coordinates arrangements with media, responsible for marketing & brand management for SFM & the Ohio Fire Academy (OFA)

36 mos. exp. in field of journalism or communication dealing in public multi-media techniques & relations, public speaking, news writing, reporting & editing or technical report translation & communication dealing in public meetings; valid driver's license.

  • Or completion of undergraduate core program in journalism or communication; 12 mos. exp. in public multi-media techniques & relations in field of journalism or communication; valid driver's license.
  • Or 12 mos. exp. as Public Information Officer 1, 64421; valid driver's license.
  • Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications for Employment noted above.
