Job Title: Public Communications Officer

Location: San Diego, CA 92101 (Onsite)

Schedule: 8am – 5pm

Duration: 6 Months

Pay: $32 to $37 per hour DOE




Position Summary:

Manpower is assisting a client who is looking for temporary support for a Public Communications Officer to support the outreach team.


Responsibilities:

  • Monitor project inboxes and draft responses to stakeholders.
  • Liaise with project planners and engineers to distill complex construction information into social media and eblasts.
  • Support event planning includes developing site maps, managing vendors and contracts, and providing onsite support at public and media focused events hosted by the organization.
  • Conduct regular content updates on the organization websites; upload, organize, and publish content and assets in CMS systems; collaborate with web development and graphic design teams; and review website analytics and search performance.
  • Write, edit, and produce engaging, high-quality communication products on a range of topics that clearly and concisely communicate the complex details of our work in an appropriate format, style, and emphasis for the audience; products may include speeches, briefings, press releases, website, and digital communications.
  • Research, extract, and verify facts to be included in speaking points or other informational materials.
  • Ensure materials are presented in a way that promotes the mission of the organization, increases agency visibility, and ensures consistency of brand messaging.
  • Adhere to agency styles including brand voice and tone, grammar, and punctuation.


Qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree with major coursework in communications, journalism, marketing, public relations, or a related field. A combination of education and recent work experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Experience writing engaging and compelling communications for a variety of audiences and purposes with a passion for simplifying and making complex information more conversational; experience writing speeches.
  • Ability to research, analyze, organize, and design informational material for publication and presentations.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of effective communication techniques, culturally responsive strategies, and public relations and issues management strategies; ability to think strategically and take initiative in identifying and responding to communication needs.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish, maintain, and foster cooperative and collaborative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work; ability to gain cooperation and consensus through discussion and persuasion.
  • At least two to three years of progressive career development supporting fast-paced communication and public information activities.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills and the ability to exercise diplomacy, tact, and discretion when working with stakeholders and employees; familiarity with the Spanish language is desirable.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well under pressure and perform multiple tasks simultaneously with frequent interruptions from telephone calls, visitors, and employees; effective time management skills, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to exercise good judgment and work independently.
  • Articulate, responsive, organized, detail-oriented, and committed to providing professional, prompt, and accurate services while meeting numerous time-sensitive deadlines.
