Conditions of Employment

If selected for this position, you will be required to:

  • Obtain and maintain a top secret Tier 5 clearance. For more information visit OPM Mythbuster Page.
  • Submit to a drug test prior to your appointment and random drug testing while you occupy the position.
  • Submit to a counterintelligence (CI) polygraph examination prior to your appointment.
  • Undergo occasonal travel.
  • Possess a valid U.S. state motor vehicle operator's license and maintain a valid license while you occupy the position.
  • Carry and use a firearm. Maintaining firearm proficiency is also mandatory. You will be ineligible to occupy this position if at any time you have been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence, unless you received a pardon or your conviction was expunged or set aside
  • Complete a pre-employment medical examination (including vision, hearing, cardiovascular and mobility of extremities) by an authorized Government physician and be determined physically fit to perform strenuous and physically demanding duties. You will be required to undergo regular physical examinations and to maintain a level of physical fitness in accordance with the standards and policies of this agency.
  • The work requires long hours, and considerable physical activity (walking, standing, bending, climbing, lifting, and carrying heavy objects), and defending oneself and/or others against physical attack.
  • Protective assignments involve high risk of exposure to potentially dangerous situations and hazards inherent in security operations. May be required to work long and irregular hours, weekends, and evenings, frequently changing shifts. Assignments are subject to change without notice.
  • Sign a consent form to certify your understanding of the conditions of employment for this position.
  • Successfully complete a 10 week Mixed Basic training course.
  • Direct deposit of pay is required.
  • You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship.
  • Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.

NOTE: The person selected for this position may be subject to a one-year probationary period.

Qualifications

You qualify for the GS-07 if you possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 level performing duties such as:

  • Maintaining designated security post; or
  • Managing visitor access; or
  • Patrolling or guarding grounds, facilitates and/or residences.

GS-8: You qualify for the GS-8 level if you possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-7 level to include performing duties such as:

  • Maintaining designated security post; or managing visitor access; or patrolling or guarding grounds, facilitates and/or residences.

And

  • Operating security monitoring devices (e.g., magnetometers and x-ray screening technology); or
  • Responding to various types of security situations (e.g., inappropriate or suspicious behavior or activity).

GS-9: You qualify for the GS-9 level if you possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-8 level performing duties such as

  • Maintaining designated security post; or managing visitor access; or patrolling or guarding grounds, facilitates and/or residences.

And

  • Operating security monitoring devices (e.g., magnetometers and x-ray screening technology); or responding to various types of security situations (e.g., inappropriate or suspicious behavior or activity).

And

  • Conducting inspections, reporting deficiencies, and recommending security and/or safety improvements; or
  • Taking violators into custody; or
  • Detecting and identifying suspicious packages.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Current or Former Political Appointees: The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees.
