Proofreader

Northern Tool + Equipment is seeking a talented Proofreader to establish and maintain quality standards by proofreading and copy editing all promotional materials produced within the Advertising department and elsewhere in the Company, monitor all work in progress for adherence to established quality standards, strive for perfection of accuracy and consistency and assist in the development of new standards when necessary.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Proofreading of all printed advertising materials for accuracy and consistency against established standards during all phases of production under established timelines.
2. Proofreading of all final catalog covers and pages using our printer partner’s tools and processes, while adhering to all time-sensitive deadlines. Compiles the index for each catalog.
3. Reviews and proofs all promotional Web emails, Web homepages and related Web copy.
4. Reviews copy for product packaging and manuals as needed to ensure adherence to quality standards.
5. Reviews and analyzes advertising content (including catalog and web materials) for completeness and clarity of offering, providing recommendations to Creative Services Manager as needed.
6. Reviews and advises Copywriters and Graphic Designers on quality control issues or updates, working closely with production coordinator.
7. Researches, evaluates, and implements changes and updates to the Advertising Style Guide.
8. Monitors corrections for adherence and reports the results to the Creative Services Manager on an ongoing basis.
9. Maintains familiarity with all new templates and design instructions for catalogs, tabloids, direct mail, packaging, and other Advertising collateral.
10. Communicates with the Merchandising, Marketing and Customer Service departments as required to facilitate quality on all projects.
11. Provides training and direction to Proofreader and freelance/contractors concerning proofreading priorities and works with Creative Services Manager to establish efficient workflow.

What you will bring to the table:

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in journalism, advertising, or other related fields.
• 3+ years of experience with journalism and advertising principles or related field.
• 3+ years of demonstrated proofreading/copy editing experience, preferably in an advertising department.
• Demonstrated experience with writing processes and procedure documentation.
• Familiarity with traffic, copywriting, proofing principles, layout, and design principles.
• Must demonstrate a high degree of skill in grammar, punctuation, usage, and spelling.
• Ability to maintain high quality standards.
• Exceptional attention to detail.
• Strong organizational and planning skills.
• Knowledge of computer software, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Adobe Acrobat, Workfront and Teams.
• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with a wide variety of customers, employees, and others.
