Duties

This position is located within the Department of the Interior, Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement, Gulf of Mexico Outer Continental Shelf (OCS) Region, in the District Field Operations (DFO), District Offices in Lafayette, LA.

The District Office is responsible for the supervision and regulation of lease operations of Federal oil and gas properties on the Gulf of Mexico Outer Continental Shelf (OCS. In addition, each District Office is responsible for conducting onsite inspections of operations including the issuance of incidents of non-compliance, investigating accidents, and initiating civil penalty cases.

At the full performance level (GS-05) the major duties of this position include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Receives, reads, and controls all incoming correspondence, reports, instructions, etc., and screens out those items which can be personally handled or forwarded to other staff.
  • Maintains proper time and attendance records and documentation.
  • Receives telephone calls, visitors, and messages and provides general information.
  • Operates office automation equipment in order to produce a variety of materials.
  • Makes all necessary arrangements for travel and training, making lodging and transportation reservations, and submitting travel vouchers and reports.
  • Responsible for maintaining working and reference project files in the functional filing system.
  • Compiles the Monthly Vehicle Report and complies associated reports and documentation to be sent to General Services in the Regional Office.

BSEE has determined that the duties of this position are suitable for telework and the selectee may be allowed to telework with supervisor approval.

This position is included in a bargaining unit. The American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE), Local 2798, is the exclusive representative of all employees in this bargaining unit.

Salary Rate Range:

Lafayette, LA GS-05: $39,576 - $51,446 per annum

First time hires to the Federal government normally start at the lower salary range of the grade level.

This vacancy may be used to fill additional positions as vacancies become available.

Minimum Qualification Requirements:

To qualify for this position, you must meet either A. Specialized Experience, B. Education, or C. Combination below for the grade to which you are applying.

  • GS- 05 Specialized Experience:

To Qualify For The GS-05, You Must Possess At Least One Full Year Of Specialized Experience Equivalent To At Least The GS-04 Grade Level In The Federal Service, Or Comparable Experience Not Gained Through Federal Service. Specialized Experience Is Experience That Equipped The Applicant With The Particular Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities To Perform Successfully The Duties Of The Position, And That Is Typically In Or Related To The Work Of The Position To Be Filled. Specialized Experience Is Defined As Demonstrated Experience:-OR-

  • preparing correspondence, memoranda, and/or documents for review; AND
  • managing, filing, and/or routing memoranda and documents; AND
  • tracking and maintaining time and attendance records, training and/or travel requests. MUST MEET ALL.
  • OR-
  • Education: You may substitute education for experience if you have achieved:
  • 4 years of successfully completed education above the High School level.
  • Combination: Equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience that total 100% of the experience requirements for the GS-5 grade level. Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience.

NOTE: Applicants utilizing education to qualify at the respective grade level must provide transcripts (unofficial are acceptable) in order to verify that the educational requirement has been met.
