Position Overview
As a Programs and Events Coordinator VISTA at Truckee Meadows Parks Foundation, you will play a crucial role in expanding the Healthy Parks Healthy People programs. Your focus will be on organizing and promoting various events, such as the Truckee Meadows Trails Challenge hikes, Discover Your Parks Walks, Dementia Friendly Nature Walks, and the Truckee Meadows Parks Project. By facilitating these initiatives, you will contribute to improving community health and education through increased engagement in local parks.
Organization Background
Truckee Meadows Parks Foundation is a nonprofit organization founded in 2012 with a mission to enhance community livability through public engagement, education, and sustainability of parks, open spaces, and trails. The Foundation is dedicated to promoting community wellness, fostering an appreciation for natural and cultural history, and ensuring access to free programs for low-income individuals in the community.
Primary Responsibilities
Expand and maintain Healthy Parks Healthy People programs
Coordinate events and hike preparations
Collaborate with partners for program execution
Enhance community outreach and engagement
Develop materials for guided hikes and programs
Strengthen the online Parks Project database
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
Strong organizational and communication skills
Commitment to the organization's mission
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
Proficiency in Spanish is a plus
AmeriCorps VISTA Opportunity
This position is funded by AmeriCorps VISTA, a national service program aimed at combating poverty. As a VISTA member, you will make a year-long commitment to serve with Truckee Meadows Parks Foundation, gaining valuable experience while contributing to societal change.
Compensation And Benefits
Living allowance of approximately $15,000
Education Award of approximately $6,100 or post-service stipend of $1,800
