Program Director of Sports Medicine

Burke Rehabilitation Hospital (Burke)/Montefiore Department of Rehabilitation Medicine seeks a dynamic and enthusiastic Sports Medicine Fellowship Program Director to join our growing physician leadership team!

About The Position

  • Candidates should be board-certified in one of the specialties of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) or Family Medicine and additional board-certification in the Sports Medicine with at least three years of experience in Graduate Medical Education (GME).
  • Candidates are eligible for the academic track and rank within the Albert Einstein College of Medicine upon starting the position.
  • Provide an educational experience that will enable trainee physicians to obtain the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to practice in Sports Medicine sub-specialty independently and competently.
  • Oversee and organize the activities of the educational program in all rotating sites that participate in the program. This includes selecting and supervising the faculty and other program personnel at each participating institution, appointing a local site director, and monitoring appropriate fellow supervision at all participating institutions.
  • Prepare the trainees to graduate with the knowledge, skills, attitudes, and lifelong quest for learning necessary to successfully achieve certification and eventual maintenance of certification (CAQ) in Sports Medicine.
  • Develop and conduct the fellowship program in accordance with the program requirements delineated by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) and the Burke Rehabilitation GME Policies. Expand and grow the fellowship program with clinical and administrative leadership including running sports specific clinics and clinical research. Strengthen the existing relationships with the community (e.g., high schools, parks, community center, county and city leadership) and expand to create a preventive culture of sports injuries and promote physical activities of all ages.
  • Define the teaching responsibilities, resources and equipment for education, support services, for the sponsoring institution (Burke), faculties, and leadership to create a learning environment maximally conducive to achieving the educational goals and objectives of the program and to maintain program accreditation. Manage the fellowship program budget with the support of the GME administrator, Chief Medical Officer, and relevant senior administrators of Burke.
  • Demonstrate leadership and collaboration in overseeing a multidisciplinary rehab team, including all therapy disciplines, ATCs, neuropsychology, and other physicians.
  • Expected participation in service activities on behalf of Burke, the department, medical school, and profession. Expected participation in ongoing and new performance improvement (PI) projects, grant projects, and clinical research.

  • Burke Rehabilitation is a member of the Montefiore Health System with an academic affiliation with Albert Einstein College of Medicine.
  • Burke has the whole scope of rehabilitation services from a 150-bed acute inpatient rehabilitation hospital, 13 outpatient therapy sites, an physicians practice, and Adult Fitness Center. The main outpatient campus is in White Plains, NY. There are 11 outpatient satellite sites throughout the Bronx, Westchester, and the Hudson Valley region.

  • Define the teaching responsibilities, resources and equipment for education, , support services, for the sponsoring institution (Burke), faculties, and leadership to create a learning environment maximally conducive to achieving the educational goals and objectives of the program and to maintain program accreditation. Manage the fellowship program budget with the support of the GME administrator, Chief Medical Officer, and relevant senior administrator of the Burke.
  • Prepare accurate and complete documentation of the Annual Program Review and others in a timely manner. Update annually both program and resident records through the ACGME Accreditation Data System. Develop action plans to correct areas of noncompliance as identified by the GMEC, ACGME site visit, and/or other mechanisms.
  • Licensed NYS Physician with American Board of PM&R or Amedican Board of Family Medicine certification
  • Experience in PM&R or subspecialty residency and fellowship as a clinician and educator for at least three years.
  • Demonstration of active involvement in clinical practice, continuing medical education, regional and national professional organizations and scientific societies, and scholarly activities as evidenced by academic publications and presentations.
