Production Supervisor (Manufacturing)

POSITION SUMMARY: The Production Supervisor directly supervises and coordinates the activities of plant workers, such as Production Workers, Mixers and Machine Operators. The Production Supervisor also monitors production floor and employees for compliance with GMP's, BRC and company safety requirements, and OSHA regulations. PERFORMANCE MEASURES - MAJOR JOB OBJECTIVES Major Job Objective What's Expected Production

  • Daily and weekly oversees production.
  • Direct and coordinate the activities of employees engaged on the production floor by visibly observing, assisting, and inspecting production and labeling finished goods.
  • Ensure that the production schedules are followed by meeting daily production goals for Bulk and Retail lines.
  • Plan production activities and ensure production goals are met.
  • Implement written procedures for each position, as needed.
  • Does not modify recipes.
  • Prepare and maintain production reports daily and weekly.
  • Follow safe food handling practices.
  • Inspect materials, products, or equipment to detect defects or malfunctions.
  • Ensure Good Manufacturing Practices are adhered to
  • Check equipment process performance and maintenance.
  • Check raw materials identification and traceability.
  • Assist workers with production where necessary.
  • Manage material and human resources to meet production schedule.
  • Follow cleaning and sanitation standards and procedures.
  • Follow the handling standards of raw and processed foods.
  • Check CPs are effectively monitoring and controlled.
  • Check set limits are effective and valid.
  • Measure daily output against goals.
  • Track finished goods produced to daily efficiency tracking sheet.
  • Ensure end products meet food safety objectives.
  • Ensure end products meet legal and customers' requirements.
  • Ensure that required paperwork is submitted at production day's end and review for thoroughness and completeness. Leadership Support
  • Respond to production inquiries.
  • Serve as a resource for production personnel, leads, and assistants.
  • Learn all machinery and how to operate on Bulk and Retail lines.
  • Locate sources of machinery problems by observing mechanical devices in operation.
  • Independently troubleshoot basic level machine malfunctions where possible.
  • Maintain open lines of communication between employees and members of management. Production Support
  • Oversee, monitor, and coordinate production team activities.
  • Train and coach production team members to ensure productivity, safety, and the accomplishment of established production goals.
  • Assure that proper procedures and production activities are completed, and that corresponding documentation is being logged and recorded daily to meet company standards.
  • Utilize Batch Master program for production data entry, reporting, and analysis.
  • Recommend improvements to system for continued efficiency.
  • Conduct daily and weekly meetings with production assistant supervisor and leads.
  • Provide hands-on assistance to line workers when necessary. Scheduling
  • Effectively manage personnel scheduling and PTO usage to ensure total coverage in the Production department.
  • Utilize effective scheduling techniques to minimize usage of company over time.
  • Provide adequate supervision to all subordinates during all scheduled shifts.
  • Aid in first-level enforcement of company attendance policy
  • Communicate staffing concerns immediately with direct report and/or back up to ensure appropriate coverage/labor needed to meet production goals. Quality
  • Ensure the quality of all raw materials and Outcomes within the Warehouse & Production operations are met.
  • Routinely inspect packaging materials and finished goods to detect non-conformities.
  • Report all issues to Operations Manager, food safety issues to QA, and unresolvable equipment failures etc. to Maintenance.
  • Ensure all quality standards are met ( including correct product/weight sheets, properly sealed packages, required Lot Number, best-buy date) and are free of defects.
  • Follow all BRC policies and procedures.
  • Monitor waste of raw materials and finished goods.
  • Ensure workplace meets environmental safety requirements. Safety
  • Enforce safety and sanitation regulations.
  • Maintain a safe environment by taking actions to correct small hazards and by notifying management of hazards that require their attention.
  • Adhere to standard operating procedures when performing tasks.
  • Adhere to all OSHA requirements and safety policies.
  • Follow personal hygiene practices. Customer Relations
  • Ability to communicate with vendors related to their raw materials. Education & Training
  • Follow standard induction training programs for new employees.
  • Disseminate up-to-date information on food safety issues.
  • Aid in provision of all training for new hires and temporary workers in food safety practices following established training programs. Food Safety & Quality/Legal Requirements
  • Comply with all food safety, quality, and legal requirements written in each SOP pertaining to job duties.
  • Report any infractions of Food Safety, Quality or Legality to supervisor.
  • Follow personal hygiene practices as documented. OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS: Participate in team meetings and make recommendations to increase productivity or improve operations. Participate in continuing education classes and monthly training courses. Other duties as assigned. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Ability to follow written and verbal instructions. Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods. Understanding of production area's work practices and workflow . Understanding of manufacturing processes , inventory systems , and equipment. Ability to work in a high-speed manufacturing environment. Time management skills. Function successfully as part of a team and individually. Forecasting and critical thinking abilities. EDUCATION: Four-year college degree in the areas of Business Administration, Industrial Engineering, or another area of focus closely related to food manufacturing. Relevant specialized training completed in certification programs may be considered in lieu of four-year degree. EXPERIENCE: Prefer five (5) years of production experience in a manufacturing environment. Prefer GFSI food safety knowledge. Prefer two (2) to three (3) years of prior experience supervising others. POSITIONS SUPERVISED: Assistant Supervisors, Leads, Packers, Mixers, Mixer Trainers, Production Associates, and Machine Operators. TOOLS/EQUIPMENT/MACHINES USED: Computers, operator terminals, hand-held scanners, materials management or process manufacturing systems and software (Microsoft Office; i.e., Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), email software, copy machine, fax machine, laptop, presentation software, printer, Nortel phone system. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS: Normal office conditions apply. Employee must have clear, close vision for reading and computer work. Must be able to sit, stand, walk, balance, climb, stoop, grasp, talk, hear, and operate computer keyboard. Job may require reaching at shoulder level and below waist. Will occasionally lift/push/pull up to 50 pounds and carry objects.
