Are you passionate about bookmaking and eager to drive projects from inception to completion? At Sourcebooks, we are seeking a dynamic Production Editor to lead the process of managing our Sourcebooks Kids titles. In this pivotal role, you will be front and center overseeing the entire lifecycle of our book projects with meticulous attention to detail and seamless collaboration with our editorial, design, and production teams. We’re seeking someone who thrives in a fast paced, entrepreneurial setting and brings a mix of strong self-motivation, infectious enthusiasm, and a growth mindset.
This position can be Remote or Hybrid in Naperville and fully remote in the following states ONLY: AZ, CT, MD, MN, NC, NJ, NY, NV, OR, PA, TN, TX, WA, AND WI.

Production Editor Primary Responsibilities:
- Workflow optimization: Evaluate and determine appropriate workflows and schedules for assigned projects
- Project Oversight: Manage workflow of projects through all production stages, hitting benchmark dates or adjusting dates as necessary
- Quality Assurance: Route, review, edit, and compile corrections for internal pages and covers
- Communication: Ownership of reporting project details to all relevant parties, including editorial, creative design, manufacturing, sales/marketing, and other departments as appropriate
- Reporting: Host bi-weekly imprint status meetings with editors and check-ins with art directors
- Freelancer Management: On-board and train new freelance resources, contact and manage outsourced copyediting, proofreading, and indexing as titles require
- At least 3+ years project management experience in the field of publishing
- In-depth understanding of project management principles including scheduling, metrics/data tracking, escalation processes, and reporting
- Familiarity with children’s formats ranging from board books to graphic novels and young reader chapter books
- Exceptional written and verbal communication with both internal and external resources
- General understanding of Growth Mindset philosophies and flexible attitude towards a constantly growing and evolving learning culture
- Thorough knowledge of Chicago Manual of Style and bookmaking conventions
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and Adobe Acrobat (PDF markup)
- Knowledge of FileMaker Pro, Smartsheets, digital asset management systems, Adobe PDF markup, and other digital tools and technologies
