Job Description

The Specialist, Product Compliance partners with other departments to ensure that Harbor Freight Tools products meet or exceed relevant regulations and standards for assigned product categories. The role works closely with key stakeholders in Legal, Global Sourcing, Imports and Trade Compliance, Product Development, Quality Assurance, and Merchandising to execute specific product category process controls and ensure compliance to department procedures. This position assists the manager with certain product categories and special projects. This role actively seeks continuous improvement opportunities to de-risk the organization.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Implement programs to ensure Harbor Freight Tools' products comply with regulatory requirements
  • Lead document collection and analysis efforts in support of regulatory compliance programs
  • Monitors new local, state and federal compliance requirements and assists business with implementation
  • Support the introduction of safe and compliant new products while monitoring existing products for continued compliance and assurance of safety.
  • Assist team in ensuring that assigned products comply with relevant voluntary standards as well as Harbor Freight policies and procedures. Review and/or audit product certifications and project implementation.
  • Execute critical product compliance and safety initiatives to minimize risks and ensure consistent adherence to regulations.
  • Prevent safety incidents, reduce risk, ensure compliance with regulations and industry standards while guiding and partnering with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Assist with definition and assessment of the ongoing compliance programs, and oversee compliance control processes.
  • Specific focus on documentation review of third party certification and testing.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure adequate flow of information among departments and vendor partners. Ensure understanding and implementation of new policies and procedures across all impacted teams.
  • Actively participate in and contribute to alleged product safety investigations.
  • Identifies occasional continuous improvement opportunities initiatives.
  • Assists in the development of presentation material

Education and Experience

Education Requirements-Preferred

  • Bachelors' Degree preferred (business, legal, project management, auditing)

Years of Experience

  • Minimum of 3 year of compliance experience in consumer or industrial goods is required
  • Preferred experience with consumer products


Skills

  • Intermediate MS Office Suite skills required.
  • Ability to translate complex information into compelling stakeholder-friendly language.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Has or can attain strong knowledge of laws, regulations, industry best practices, and current trends in the field.
  • Ability to identify compliance risks and competently react to applicable regulatory matters.
  • Ability to implement numerous projects at one time, think ahead to potential obstacles, and deploy new strategies to minimize those obstacles.
  • Ability to maintain the confidentiality of highly confidential information.
  • Strong time management and planning skills, organized with the ability to multitask, exceptional follow-up skills and able to meet deadlines.


Physical Requirements

Corporate - Remote - General office environment requiring ability to:

  • Stand, walk, sit for extended periods of time .
  • Speak and listen to others in person and over the phone and video conferencing.
  • Use keyboard and read from computer screen and reports.
  • The ability to lift up to 15 lbs.

The anticipated salary range for this position is $64,000 – $95,900 depending on location, knowledge, skills, education and experience. This position is also eligible for an annual discretionary bonus. In addition, we offer comprehensive and competitive benefits to Associates (and their families) such as medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term and long-term disability. Eligible Associates are able to enroll in our company’s 401k plan. Associates will accrue paid time off up to 236 hours per year (inclusive of PTO, floating holidays, and paid holidays). Paid sick time up to 80 hours per year unless otherwise required by law.
