We are a growing organization seeking a talented Process Engineering Supervisor to join our team as a pivotal member here at PBF Energy. This role is located at Torrance Refining Company in Torrance, CA.

Job Summary

The Process Engineer Supervisor leads the Process Engineering Department, which determines solution approaches for a wide range of assignments by applying technical expertise and problem-solving capability. This is an intense and exciting position that provides supervisory and leadership skills development and is suitable for highly motivated and qualified candidates with interest in future leadership roles within the organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Sets clear expectations and priorities for the Process Engineering Department consistent with overall Refinery vision and goals
  • Sets high standards for integrity, personal and process safety, and operational excellence in compliance with site policies and procedures
  • Drives refinery operations improvements, profitability initiatives and energy optimizations
  • Leads the unit process health monitoring and associated work processes
  • Understands criticality of daily refinery operations issues/problems and sets appropriate work direction
  • Supports Unit shutdowns/startups and Turnarounds by ensuring robust preparation, milestone compliance and adequate staffing
  • Ensures accuracy of technical basis used for long range planning and capital projects
  • Manages department operating expense budget, and steward’s refinery variable expenses
  • Contributes to annual business planning and capital budgeting processes
  • Leads the refinery internship program and supports intern and new hire recruitment to ensure adequate overall department staffing and competency
  • Develops training plans for the engineers to improve their refinery operations knowledge, technical expertise (troubleshooting, and technologies via field experience, industry training, utilizing the existing knowledge base in the refinery and circuit)
  • Mentor’s engineers to develop and hone their organizational skills and become future leaders
  • Provides necessary oversight, coaching and guidance to properly present accurate, relevant, and timely information to peers, business teams, and upper-level management
  • Drives productive and mutually beneficial relationships with business partners, suppliers, and peers
  • Maintains technical proficiency and participates in training related to self-development

Job Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering or higher required

Work Experience:

  • Minimum 6 years of experience in a refinery and at least 2 years of process engineering experience
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills
  • Able to lead a large group of early career engineers in the petrochemical industry and develop future leaders for the organization
  • Ability to manage multiple competing priorities and lead/support teams
  • Ability to use a measured risk approach and risk-value analysis methods in all business decisions
  • Understanding of refining technologies such as the following: Crude Oil Distillation, Coking, Reforming (Semi-Regen and CCR), Hydrotreating (Naphtha, Diesel, Gas Oil), Fluid Catalytic Cracking, HF Alkylation, Hydrocracking, Aromatics Recovery
  • Proficiency in Aspen Hysys, hydraulic modeling, mass and heat balances, data analysis and troubleshooting

The salary range for this position is $101,702.39 - $180,479.24. The compensation range listed in this posting is in compliance with applicable state law. Factors such as scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education/training, job-related skills and internal peer equity will be considered in determining the selected candidate’s compensation. Salaries at the time of hire are typically in the lower to middle portion of the above range in order to provide the opportunity to reflect future performance-based increases. In addition to salary, PBF offers a comprehensive and generous benefits package.
