Job Description
Section I. General Overview & Reporting:
Our Pro Sales Consultants work directly with their accounts including developers, builders, commercial and general and electrical contractors, and end users to provide expert level lighting solutions for their projects. This position requires quoting of lighting specs, (adaptive problem solving), seeking alternative value engineering options, and acting as the key conduit between large customer project orders, from initial order placement, coordination with the factory or vendors, through to delivery and project completion.
This position reports to General Manager of the showroom/store.

Our Pro Sales Consultants work directly with their accounts including developers, builders, commercial and general and electrical contractors, and end users to provide expert level lighting solutions for their projects. This position requires quoting of lighting specs, (adaptive problem solving), seeking alternative value engineering options, and acting as the key conduit between large customer project orders, from initial order placement, coordination with the factory or vendors, through to delivery and project completion.
This position reports to General Manager of the showroom/store.
Section II. Duties & Areas Of Responsibility
The primary duties of the Lighting Sales Representative consists of, but are not limited to, the following:
- Providing a consultative sales approach with business partners (primarily electrical contractors or general contractors) in providing lighting solutions for their commercial/ industrial/ multi-family and residential projects
- Providing consultative support to (designer trade professionals, home builders and end users) on Special Projects such as Custom / High End homes that require excellence in all aspects of assisting those projects
- Developing and maintaining solid relationships with all business partners, internal and external customers, and vendors
- Quote/Proposal preparation, and follow up to include:
- Obtaining lighting requirements of the entire environment with a holistic approach that takes into account the practical and aesthetic needs of the project
- Working alternatives or value engineering options, when required
- Negotiations with the customer that provide for positive outcomes
- Closing the initial sale
- Project management to include:
- Coordinating w/internal and external stakeholders(?) on initial order placement
- Coordinating internal company activities in the fulfillment of the project goals
- Participating in internal project meetings and project site meetings, where applicable
- Providing continual & timely, project-related communication to customers, business partners, and internal departments to ensure project timelines are met
- Maintaining close contact with the customer to proactively address issues or changes in scope
- Post Sales Activity to include
- Investigating and resolving customer issues
- Assisting w/warranty issues
- Coordinating returns, replacement, or repair of defective materials
- Showroom sales
- Provide backup to inside sales (showroom), when needed
- Other duties, as assigned
- 3+ years experience with consultative sales with electrical contractors, or general contractors or closely related construction building materials industries
- Previous lighting product sales experience, preferred
- Solid base of contacts within the electrical contractor or general contractor fields
- Experience with visiting customer locations, construction jobsites and following required safety protocols
- Proven experience working with commercial business partners
- Excellent self motivation and initiative
- Outstanding customer service skills, including excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong time management, planning and organizational skills
- Ability to assess and prioritize (with flexibility to change course as needed)
- Excellent interpersonal, and collaborative skills
- Proven problem resolution and decision-making skills
- Professional demeanor and appearance
- Solid Microsoft Office skills (Word & Excel)
- Ability to learn products, solutions & processes quickly
- ERP experience helpful (Prophet 21)
- Ability to work well both independently, and in team settings
- Professional personal vehicle for jobsite visits (expenses to be reimbursed)
- Visual acuity required to read computer screens, written documents, inspect materials, products, for site inspection and consultation, etc.
- Ability to speak and hear on the phone to communicate effectively
- Must be able to work sitting, standing, climbing, stooping, bending, and in squatting position for extended periods of time
- Manual dexterity required for computer work, to handle materials, supplies, etc.
- Ability to visit construction jobsites (non-climate controlled sites, climbing, etc.)
- Ability to lift up to 20 lbs.
