The Junction City High School principal is under the general supervision of the superintendent and is the instructional leader of the school, responsible for establishing high expectations for students and staff, a shared vision, monitoring and supervising instruction, coaching teachers to improve instructional practices, and a clear plan for improving student achievement. The principal is expected to create and maintain a safe and supportive school climate and to effectively manage operational, technical, and personnel issues to promote student learning. The principal is expected to establish and maintain positive communication and partnerships with students, staff, parents, and community members. This contract is a 225-day contract.

Duties And Responsibilities

  • Clearly communicate the school and district’s vision and mission to the school community and maintain a positive and productive school culture and climate while maintaining team accountability.
  • Evaluate and coach administrative, licensed and classified team members according to best practices and district policy, including growth-centered professional conversations.
  • Create and implement a continuous improvement plan that aligns with District priorities of equity and achievement for all students.
  • Collaborate with the district leadership team to advance initiatives for school improvement.
  • Utilize data to inform practices that lead to on time graduation for all students.
  • Understand and communicate Oregon’s academic standards and ensure implementation of standards based curriculum.
  • Oversee effective grading practices of teachers.
  • Lead and support Professional Learning Communities and data team efforts to increase students’ academic achievement.
  • Develop a master schedule that provides varied and rigorous opportunities for students and effectively and efficiently utilizes the talents of team members.
  • Collaborate with the superintendent or designee in recruiting highly effective candidates and make recommendations for hire.
  • Develop and foster community partnerships that will enhance the educational experience of all students, including directed efforts for underrepresented student groups.
  • Provide oversight and support for co-curricular student opportunities (athletics & activities), including resource allocation and supervision at events.
  • Effectively resolve issues that have risen to the highest level of the school, thus are often complex and involve numerous stakeholders.
  • Effectively oversee building level budgets.
  • Understand compliance and program mandates, including Special Education and English Learner Education.
  • Report issues to authorities as necessary, child abuse, suspicious activity etc.
  • Understand Oregon and federal education laws and be able to effectively communicate related accountability systems.
  • Inspire innovation among the school community, including the use of technology to support instruction.
  • Maintain appropriate certifications and training hours as required.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to personal growth and learning.
  • Effectively balance between great flexibility and great organization.
  • Comply with applicable district, state, local and federal laws, rules and regulations.
  • Attend work regularly.
  • Other duties may be assigned as needed.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Directly supervises administrative, licensed and classified team members. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training and coaching team members; promoting and transferring team members; planning, assigning and directing work as required; evaluating performance; rewarding, disciplining and terminating team members; and addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Qualifications Required

  • Current Oregon administrative license;
  • A minimum of five years of K-12 educational administrative experience is preferred with demonstrated results in improving academic achievement.
  • Prior public school experience with increasing levels of administrative or leadership responsibility;
  • Knowledge and skills to work effectively in the areas of discipline, attendance, curriculum, assessment and instruction;
  • Knowledge and skill in supervision of student activities;
  • Ability to provide consistent and effective leadership with respect to both academics and behavior that will motivate students and staff members;
  • Knowledge of the laws and standards for Oregon schools;
  • Knowledge and skills to work effectively with students, parents and staff in discipline and attendance;
  • Ability to interact in a positive manner with staff, students and patrons;
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the use of data to assess student progress and inform instructional practice;
  • Demonstrated ability to manage crises and conflict through sound decision-making, professional judgment and effective problem solving;
  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing;
  • Ability to effectively manage time and organize workload;
  • Ability to oversee implementation of District curriculum and state standards;
  • Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with administrative team members, education personnel, support staff, students, parents, patrons, and representatives from a variety of agencies;
  • Ability to provide clear and consistent direction to teachers and classified staff;
  • Ability to meet Oregon and District Standards for Competent and Ethical Performance of Oregon Educators;
  • Responsibility to know, understand, and adhere to District policies;
  • Applicant should be prepared to demonstrate knowledge of effective instructional practices, supervision and evaluation of staff;
  • Knowledge and experience using teaching standards of professional practices for teaching.

Qualifications Desired

  • Recent Program supervision
  • Demonstrated conflict resolution, parent conferencing, and supportive communication skills;
  • Experience implementing AVID and willingness to participate in AVID Summer Institute;
  • Experience overseeing Career Technical Education programs, including Perkins and other federal funding sources.
  • Ability to use assessment data to inform instruction;
  • Familiarity with universal screening and progress monitoring.

Compensation

  • Salary Range: $118,793-$128,761 (based on the 24-25 salary schedule)
