This technical position is responsible for digital file manipulation in preparation for final printing. The job includes complete preflight operations, digital proofing, hard copy proofing, file ripping and imposition. Limited design and layout duties are performed in conjunction with the pre-press procedures.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Preflight all digital files to ensure that the files are accurate, complete and ready for imposition
Perform and digital file manipulation
Prepare digital files for imposition, file ripping or CTP outputting
Perform quality and accuracy inspection of digital and hard copy proofs
Perform routine systems and file maintenance in accordance with guidelines set by the department manager
Perform basic graphic design and layout duties in conjunction with the pre-press procedures or as needed
Advise and assist the department manager in developing and administering department operational procedures and policies
Perform all other duties assigned and those that may be necessary to achieve company and department goals
Archive all jobs
Monitor soft-proofing site
Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty and responsibility satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are a representation of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.
Extensive knowledge of the graphic arts processes and equipment, as well as the offset printing process
Extensive knowledge of the software used to perform the duties of the job (esp. Apogee, Quark Xpress, Adobe CS)
Excellent organization and follow-through skills
Excellent mathematical skills
Excellent attention to detail and care of accuracy
Good verbal and written communication skills
Must be able to carry out multi-task projects simultaneously
Regular and consistent attendance
Education And/or Experience
Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Communications, Computer Science or related field; or 3 or more years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Language Skills
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to apply basic math concepts (add, subtract, multiply, and divide).
Reasoning Ability
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
Physical and Working Conditions
The job is performed in a manufacturing facility with exposure to large equipment, noise, and materials related to the printing process. The physical demands described below are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
Ability to sit and/or stand for extended periods of time
Ability to occasionally bend, stoop or kneel
Ability to use hands and arms to type, reach, handle or feel
Ability to regularly lift/move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift/move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift/move up to 50 pounds
