Responsibilities

The Ultrasound Research Laboratory in the Department of Radiology of Thomas Jefferson University consists of 8 faculty (4 PhD scientists and 4 MD physicians; including 2 clinical radiologists who are also principal investigators (PIs) on NIH grants). Our lab is involved in a wide range of projects ranging from benchtop investigations in water-baths and computer simulations over pre-clinical studies to full-fledged domestic and international, multi-center clinical trials; most (but not all) centered around the use of microscopic gas-bubbles as ultrasound contrast agents. The lab also maintains the Jefferson High Frequency Ultrasound Core Facility providing support for state-of-the-art small animal ultrasound imaging for researchers across the entire university.

The currently available post-doc position is related to the multi-site breast cancer study utilizing contrast-enhanced ultrasound funded by NIH.

Responsibilities of the candidate include:

  • Prepare for experimental and clinical ultrasound data collection
  • Collect and manage experimental and clinical ultrasound data
  • Perform data analysis using MATLAB
  • Perform statistical analysis
  • Prepare seminars, conference abstracts and presentations
  • Publish papers
  • Attend weekly meetings with the PI
  • Independently develops scientific hypotheses related to ongoing work
  • Independently designs experiments to test hypotheses
  • Independently carries out or delegates procedures for experiments

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Earned a recent or soon to earn a doctorate in mechanical, electrical, biomedical engineering or related relevant field
  • Proficiency with signal and image processing methods
  • Productive publication record
  • Experience presenting results at scientific conferences
  • Programming skills in MATLAB
  • PLUS: Experience with ultrasound imaging systems and technology

Other Attributes:

  • Exposure to modern statistical techniques including linear mixed model analysis, machine learning and other large data analytical techniques
  • Ability to effectively collaborate and communicate with a multi-disciplinary research team
  • Initial one year appointment with potential of 1-2 additional years
