Job Description

The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at The Ohio State University within the College of Arts and Sciences seeks a Post Doctoral Scholar to perform independent research in Chemistry Education. The successful candidate will work under the direction of and be mentored by Dr. Jocelyn (Josie) Nardo. Dr. Jocelyn (Josie) Nardo is looking to mentor a post-doctoral scholar who is invested in abolishing equity barriers to support inclusive pedagogy and is confident with current theories and philosophies related to intersectionality, reflexivity, and culturally relevant & culturally responsive pedagogies. Her research is focused on justice, diversity, equity, and inclusion in chemistry learning environments and STEM broadly as well as large-scale institutional reformation through decolonizing scholarship.

Responsibilities

The post-doctoral scholar is expected to spend –

40% conducting research (qualitative and mixed-methods approaches) including: co-directing research, collecting data, co-analyzing data, co-evaluating data and co-planning meetings.

40% preparing writings (peer-reviewed journals, science communications, conference materials) including: co-writing abstracts, co-writing manuscripts, co-writing grants, co-preparing workshops and preparing presentations/posters.

20% mentoring students (group meeting, department meetings, and feedback) both collaboratively (co) and independently. Including: co-facilitating group meeting, giving feedback, providing advice, sharing literature and co-teaching research skills.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Doctoral degree in chemistry education, higher education, learning sciences, STEM education, or related field.

Desired

  • Preferably has demonstrated experience with doing research with historically marginalized students, using Critical frameworks, facilitating inclusive active learning environments, and building relationships with campus programs like teaching & learning centers.
  • Curriculum development, survey/instrument development, ethnography, video analysis, focus/individual interviews. Strong software skills in Microsoft suit, Google suit, NVivo, and/or R.

The target hiring range for this position is $48,000-$60,000.

Duration: This position is full-time for one year (beginning in the Autumn semester of 2023 or early Spring semester 2024) with renewal for up to two additional years.
