To meet those standards, all selected applicants must undergo, successfully pass, and maintain a background investigation for a Top Secret clearance as a condition of placement into this position. Requirements for this position:

  • Participate in tests and exercises during non-duty work hours.
  • Wear a uniform.
  • Wear various Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to include respirators, masks, self-contained breathing apparatus, and armored vests.
  • Obtain and retain authority under Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Delegation 12002, Delegation for Security Operations within the Department of Homeland Security by completing Federal Law Enforcement Training Center's (FLETC) Uniform Police Training Program or equivalent FLETC basic police training program within 1 year of appointment.
  • Work shifts including weekends and holidays, and emergency overtime when necessary.
  • Subject to recall 24/7.
  • Required to work above and below ground.
  • Subject to mandatory random drug testing.
  • Meet requirements of 18 U.S.C.
  • 922(g)(9), known as the "Lautenberg Agreement" which outlines carrying of firearms.
  • Must be able to continue to perform the duties of this position in the event of a crisis until relieved by proper authority.
  • Subject to supervisory inspection and approval of attire, as an officer representing MWPD, for professional and competent image to include a clean, neatly pressed uniform or attire for tidy appearance in accordance to established dress code.

Skills

To qualify for this position at the GS-06 level, you must possess one full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-05 level in the Federal government, which has equipped you with the skills needed to successfully perform the duties of the position. Experience may be obtained in the federal government, a state or local government, or private sector, and must demonstrate the following:

  • Patrolling on foot or by vehicle on an installation or facility to identify suspicious activity, potential threats, and protect personnel and/or property OR,
  • Standing a fixed post and controlling personnel access by monitoring the identification of individuals entering a facility or building OR,
  • Operates a variety of communications and security equipment, such as computers, multi-frequency radios, multi-line telephone systems, and other related peripherals to support both routine and emergency operations OR,
  • Writing and submitting reports on activities or incident involving violations of appropriate laws or regulations.

  • National Law Enforcement Accountability Database (NLEAD): This position has been identified as a Law Enforcement Officer position. As such, selected candidates' personal information will be used to search the National Law Enforcement Accountability Database (NLEAD). NLEAD will be used as part of the pre-employment process to determine the selected candidates' trustworthiness, suitability, and/or eligibility for this position. The search must have favorable results for the selected candidates to continue in the process. NLEAD is a centralized repository of official records documenting instances of misconduct, including as appropriate, the following categories: 1) records of criminal convictions; 2) suspension of a law enforcement officer's enforcement authorities, such as de-certification; 3) terminations; 4) civil judgments, including amounts (if publicly available), related to official duties; and 5) resignations or retirements while under investigation for serious misconduct or; 6) sustained complaints or records of disciplinary action based on findings of serious misconduct. Additionally, the database will include commendations and awards for federal law enforcement officers. The NLEAD is accessible only to authorized users to help determine suitability and eligibility of candidates for law enforcement positions. During employment, if the selected candidates are in violation of one or more of the six categories cited above, their information will be included in the NLEAD database in accordance with Executive Order (EO) 14074 on Advancing Effective, Accountable Policing and Criminal Justice Practices to Enhance Public Trust and Public Safety.
