Job Summary

Manage and coordinate training programs, including annual firearms training, as required by state law. Lead University Police force in obtaining and managing state-required training. Instruct members of the department; manage training records and documentation for certified officers, and supervise trainees and academy candidates.

This position has been identified by Federal Law (Jeanne Clery Act) as a Campus Security Authority (CSA), with significant student and campus responsibilities. CSA 's are obligated to report crimes reported to them which occurred on campus, in public areas bordering campus and in certain non-campus buildings owned or controlled (leased) by the University.

Responsibilities

  • Represent agency as training coordinator of the Division of Public Safety
  • Coordinate, evaluate, and schedule training of all personnel
  • Assess and evaluate all officers' skill and knowledge levels to determine the appropriate training path
  • Teach all training required for the University Police Department as required by the Board of Regents, GA P.O.S.T, and GPAC
  • Attend bi-annual Board of Regents Training Coordinator Conferences and/or Meetings as needed
  • Evaluate current curriculum to ensure information is up-to-date and meets standards of Georgia's Peace Officer Standards and Training Council (P.O.S.T.) and Board of Regents; update and/or create any curriculum not current
  • Develop and train all personnel in career development classes to meet State and Board of Regents standards
  • Manage Field Training Officer Certification (FTO) Program for Division
  • Teach all new FTO candidates and provide all current FTOs with required training updates
  • Maintain detailed records on each member of the Division of completed training and what training is pending, including the mandated 20 hours per year of in-service training as required by the Peace Officer Standards and Training Council
  • Maintain all department's training files and records
  • Respond to all correspondence directed to Training Division for other criminal justice agencies or private agencies
  • Manage/Supervise internship program for the Division

Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice or related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Required Experience

  • Three (3) or more years of related work experience
  • One (1) or more years of experience with GCIC operations, rules, and regulations

Other Required Qualifications

  • P.O.S.T. (Peace Officers Standards Training) General Instructor
  • P.O.S.T. Firearms Instructor certification

Preferred Qualifications

Additional Preferred Qualifications

  • P.O.S.T. Use of Force Instructor
  • Defensive Tactics Instructor Certification

Proposed Salary

$55,126 - $70,307

This is a exempt position paid on a monthly basis.
