Primary Function: The job of Police Dispatch is done for the purpose/s of dispatching emergency services in response to calls. This position is responsible for answering emergency and non-emergency radio and telephone calls, dispatching appropriate emergency services, operating NCIC/GCIC terminals, providing, information to law enforcement and other emergency-response personnel, assisting coworkers, and maintaining related records. This position works under direct supervision of the Shift Supervisor.

Requirements

  • Educational Level:

High School Diploma/GED required

  • Experience:

Minimum of two (2) years of previous experience in similar role preferred.

  • Certifications/Requirements:

Georgia P.O.S.T. Basic Communication Officer course or successful completion within six (6) pursuant of hire.

Georgia Crime Information Center Computer Operator Certification or successful completion within six (6) months of hire.

Incident Command System (ICS) 100, 200 and 700 certificates or successful completion within eight (8) months of hire.

Valid Driver’s License required

Essential Duties

Demonstrates prompt and regular attendance.

Answer telephone lines for the purpose of receiving information concerning calls for service.

Directs and/or dispatches school police officers for the purpose of them responding to calls for service in a fair, courteous and firm manner.

Dispatch school police officers to emergency and non-emergency (e.g. accidents, injuries, vandalism, suspicious activities, alarms, etc.) for the purpose of taking the appropriate action to resolve immediate safety and/or security concerns.

Informs chain of command of campus security and/or criminal activities (e.g. transmits messages associated with security and/or criminal matters, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring managerial awareness for appropriate direction or follow-up.

Maintains a variety of files and records (e.g. schedules, guidelines, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the availability of information for future reference and/or audit for compliance to established policies.

Monitors continuously, alarm systems installed in schools and property under the control of MCSD (e.g. identifies multiple types of unusual noises or sounds that may indicate the premises are threatened/endangered by vandals, burglars, fire, mechanical failure of equipment, loss of power affecting food storage, heating plant failure, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining a safe and secure facility.

Participates in unit meetings (e.g. in-service training, workshops, etc.) for the purpose of gathering information required to perform job functions.

Receives and transmits pertinent information to patrols in the field for the purpose of providing information, direction and /or referral.

Record essential information for the purpose of updating the Dispatch Records Management System.

Respond to citizen requests for the purpose of deciding on appropriate course of action.

Responds to inquiries from a variety of sources regarding campus security issues (e.g. communicate findings with school administration, etc.) for the purpose of providing information, direction, and/or referral for addressing inquiry.

Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
