The department of Radiation Oncology at Novant Health New Hanover Regional Medical Center (NH-NHRMC) has an exciting opportunity available. If you want to work with a progressive physics department, live at the beach and make an impact then this is the place for you.
Successful candidates will join a team of 5 physicists, 1 medical physics assistant, 2 physics residents, 8 dosimetrists and 7 physicians. Together we'll deliver high quality cancer care to the residents of Southeastern North Carolina.
Site Details
Currently the department spans 3 physical locations with 4 linacs, 2 CT scanners and an HDR afterloader. The equipment list includes Siemens and Philips CT scanners, Varian linacs (C Series, TrueBeam Edge and Halcyon), Eclipse V16.1, AlignRT, Aria R&V, Oncentra for HDR brachytherapy and MIM Symphony for LDR brachytherapy. The department leverages automation & AI solutions wherever possible; productivity software includes MIM Maestro with AI contouring, Varian's RapidPlan and Hyperarc, RadFormation's EZ Fluence, ClearCheck and ChartCheck. QA products include RadCalc 3D, Mobius 3D, Doselab, SNC Daily QA3 and IC profiler, Varian portal dosimetry, PTW ion chambers and Beamscan 3D water tank.
New team members will have an opportunity to participate in the commissioning of new equipment at NH-NHRMC Radiation Oncology’s 4th location Scott's Hill, scheduled to open in December 2024. The new campus will have a new TrueBeam accelerator, Siemens CT and brand-new physics QA equipment.
In addition to routine clinical physics the department has a CAMPEP accredited Medical Physics Residency program (https://www.novanthealth.org/medical-education/residency-programs/physics-residency/). Team members are encouraged to participate in the education of our physics residents.
The department is interested in pursuing clinical research projects, topics of interest include new equipment commissioning, automation, process improvement, ESAPI scripting. Candidates that have an aptitude/desire to code are highly desired.
Qualifications
Candidates should have a Masters or PhD in Medical Physics or related field. ABR certification in Therapeutic Radiologic Physics is preferred but not required. Early career physicists and newly graduated residents are encouraged to apply.
