, Job Description

This position is in support of the John Hopkins research team. This is a worldwide rapid deployment team that will support John Hopkins research efforts on behalf of the US Department of State.The Phlebotomist will be available to deploy worldwide within 72 hours of notification. The Phlebotomist will be responsible for the safe and timely draw of specimens from individuals designated by the research team.The phlebotomist will be responsible for proper collection of specimens, labelling, and packaging. The phlebotomist will work closely with the team leadership to coordinate all these functions onsite when required.

, Qualifications

  • Certification as a phlebotomist from any state or US territory.
  • Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) - Required
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience.
  • Experience in a remote setting is preferred.
  • Prior military or fire experience preferred.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Travels with team internationally within 72 hours of notification.
  • Obtains blood specimens and collects nonblood specimens such as urine, sputum, and throat swabs for laboratory testing.
  • Preform Centrifuge for specimen samples.
  • Performs screening tests and reports results. Processes specimens to prepare them for laboratory testing.
  • Prepares specimens for reference laboratory dispatch and testing.
  • Packages specimen for shipment IAW protocol.
  • Maintains all supplies and equipment through travel.
  • Submits travel vouchers within 5 days of return.
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Skills And Knowledge

  • Ability to successfully perform BLS interventions in accordance.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills  
  • Ability to effectively work with persons of diverse age and economic background in a culturally competent manner.  
  • Must be able to manage and provide concise directions to supporting staff. 
  • Ability to quickly adapt to changing work conditions and responsibilities

Requirements

  • US Citizen or Permanent Resident Card is required.
  • Must be able to travel within 72 hours of notification internationally.
  • A valid passport is required and must be in your possession

Compensation | Min: $52,000 Max: $72,800

Pay range is based on several factors and may vary in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits. Final salary and offer will be determined by the applicant’s background, experience, skills, internal equity, and alignment with geographical market data.
