Phlebotomist

Prerequisites

  • High School Diploma or its equivalent
  • Experience as a phlebotomist in a hospital setting
  • Medical Assistant or Phlebotomy Certification
  • Current BLS (AHA or ASHI)

(Can be obtained within 90 days of hire)

  • Demonstrate competencies in appropriate areas
  • Good communication and listening skills
  • Must be able to speak, read and write the English language

Working Hours / Locations: Shift rotation and location, as assigned / weekends as required

(Overtime may be required to ensure adequate staffing)

Status: Non-exempt

Job Summary

The phlebotomist is an instrumental first point of service contact to all patients, vendors, and visitors to the Laboratory Department. The position provides general support for functions related to their specific tasks and adherence to the rules and regulations of all applicable local, state, and federal agencies and accrediting bodies.

Responsibilities

  • Blood extraction from patients through venipuncture or finger sticks; venipuncture preferred.
  • Analyze blood specimens using the correct testing equipment, when necessary
  • Prepare specimens for transportation including, but not limited to labeling vials accurately and matching blood specimens to patient information.
  • Filing, data entry, faxing, stocking of supplies, collecting urine drug screens and processing biological specimens to include blood, urine, stool, and other bodily fluids.
  • Ability to process insurance/payment information.
  • Prioritization and time management skills, working quickly without compromising quality of work.
  • All other duties as assigned.
