Position Summary: Under the technical direction of a registered Pharmacist, performs a variety of clerical functions and duties relating to the distribution of medications and other functions of Pharmacy Services.
Position Performance Area/Expectations:
Medication Preparation for Distribution
- Completely and accurately fills all orders within the requested time frame.
- Accurately and completely prepares unit dose tablets, capsules, and oral liquids.
- Accurately and completely prepares intravenous admixtures, including chemotherapy and hyperalimentation, abiding to aseptic technique.
- Properly maintains IV cleanroom per policies and procedures.
- Ensures Pharmacist checks each order before distribution.
- Has authority to transport medication(s) throughout organization including off campus locations
Automated Dispensing Units
- Maintains adequate stock levels in order to prevent shortages; does not overstock.
- Completely and accurately refills the units within the assigned time frame.
- Follows through when discrepancies are discovered, according to policies and procedures.
Labeling and Documentation
- Labels all medications according to pharmacy policy and procedures.
- Affixes cautionary statements and explanation labels as needed.
- Maintains complete and accurate logs/ records.
Inventory and Supplies
- Checks expiration dates on all dated supplies.
- Rotates stock and disposes of outdated supplies according to pharmacy guidelines.
- Reorders medication and supplies to prevent shortages; does not overstock.
Equipment
- Operates all equipment according to manufacturers’ specifications and policy.
- Notifies Manager of needed repairs to prevent any further equipment damage.
Support Functions
- Reviews Automated Dispensing Cabinet Profile Override Report and obtains active physician orders.
- Reviews Automated Dispensing Cabinet Discrepancy Reports for accuracy, capturing lost charges.
- Reviews patient charges and makes adjustments promptly and accurately.
- Prepares controlled substance records according to regulations and policy.
- Maintains departmental records and files in an orderly manner; quickly retrieves files upon request.
- Answers phone inquiries promptly and courteously.
Position Requirements:
- High School Diploma
- Illinois license for Pharmacy Technician
- Keyboarding experience.
- Numerical aptitude.
- Pharmacy Certification is required
- Ability to speak and write English fluently.
This is a full-time, rotating shifts, every other weekend position.
