Our program, hosted, is renowned for its commitment to welcoming and guiding individuals interested in Judaism, including those considering conversion, and fostering a vibrant community. With over 650 students annually, our program serves as a hub for learning and connection in Southern California.
Role Overview
As a Part-Time Instructor for the Miller Introduction to Judaism Program, you will play a pivotal role in providing a rich and inclusive educational experience. Utilizing our established curriculum, you will guide students in exploring the history, traditions, and practices of Judaism, empowering them to embrace Jewish life both in and outside the classroom. We offer courses in both English and Spanish, reaching students globally through virtual Zoom sessions scheduled across various time zones.
Key Responsibilities
Lead engaging and informative sessions for an 18-week program cohort.
Thoroughly prepare for classes, familiarizing yourself with curriculum materials.
Offer support and guidance to students beyond class hours, addressing inquiries about conversion, rituals, and theological concepts.
Cultivate a welcoming and participatory class environment, ensuring all students feel valued and included.
Adhere to program and university guidelines while facilitating classes.
Fulfill additional duties as needed.
Qualifications
Rabbinical Ordination from an accredited institution, with knowledge spanning Conservative, Reform, and Reconstructing denominations.
Demonstrated expertise in Jewish practices and customs.
Minimum one year of teaching experience at the introductory level.
Proficiency in building rapport and fostering community in online settings.
Familiarity with Zoom features such as breakout groups, screen-sharing, and participant management.
Sensitivity and respect for the diverse backgrounds and identities of students.
