The City of Seattle is seeking an experienced and motivated Painter Crew Chief to join our team. Our Painters serve many locations including Seattle City Hall, Seattle Municipal Tower, Fleets Management garages and more

About Us

FAS is often the public's first interaction with the City of Seattle, operating as a customer-focused front door that assists with everything from paying utilities or reporting a pothole to requesting public information or even adopting a new pet.

The 450-plus employees of FAS span across 10 divisions and work behind-the-scenes providing critical functions, like managing 120 City facilities—including police and fire stations—coordinating logistics and emergency management and making sure minority-owned businesses can equitably compete for City contracts. Job Responsibilities

  • Report to the Facilities Maintenance Manager and provide customer support, supervision, training, planning, organizing, materials support and assistance in scheduling work for the crew.
  • Perform field evaluations of work projects to ensure work performed is in code compliance and meets department and customer expectations.
  • Participate in developing/managing performance goals and metrics for the team; conduct annual performance reviews on each of the employees along with periodic feedback sessions; provide positive leadership and team building through clear and positive communication and accountability.
  • Develop, implement and maintain a preventive and predictive maintenance program.
  • Conduct safety meetings, document attendance, discuss safety topics and other related issues. Provide design reviews of projects; inspect requests for work and interpret blueprints to develop needs for materials, equipment, labor and cost estimates; order, pick-up and deliver materials, equipment and supplies to jobsite.
  • Coordinate work as needed between different trades and vendors. Provide training to employees on new techniques, material and equipment; maintain logs for required training; track facilities projects, tasks and documents; enter project data into the system accounting program.
  • Provide support in writing and tracking contracts, request for proposals and purchase orders. Track maintenance/project budgets and send expenditure corrections to accounting.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Three years journey-level painter experience and the ability to supervise the work of others.
  • Washington State Driver’s License.
  • Normal color vision is required.

(Or a combination of education and/or training and/or experience which provides an equivalent background required to perform the work of the class.)

The Most Successful Candidates Will Possess The Following

  • Proficient knowledge in MS Word, Excel and other MS Office applications; excellent written and oral communications skills; organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work in an environment with multiple projects and priorities; initiative and independent judgment within defined procedures and practices; positive customer service orientation, with both internal and external clients; ability to supervise the work of others.

Work Environment/Physical Demands

  • This position requires full-time onsite work.
  • Required to stand, walk or bend for extended periods of time.
  • Required to lift objects weighing in excess of 50 pounds.
  • May be required to handle or work with toxic/hazardous substances.
  • Required to work outdoors in all types of weather.
  • Required to work near energized equipment.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all types of weather and required to stand, walk, or bend for extended periods of time.
  • Knowledgeable in the proper use of all tools, equipment, and material.
  • May be required to work over water, on ladders, scaffolds or in confined/cramped spaces

Additional Information

This position is classified as a Classified Civil Service, regular, Full-Time. It is Civil Service represented, FLSA non-exempt and is eligible for overtime. The full range for this step-progression position is $ 48.91 - $ 52.97 per hour.

Current City of Seattle Employees in a driving position may be required to submit an updated abstract.
