As a Packaging Engineer, you will play a crucial role in the development and implementation of packaging solutions for our body and face skincare products. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product development, manufacturing, and quality assurance, to ensure that our packaging meets the highest on-brand standards of functionality, aesthetics, and sustainability.

The position will report to the Manager, Package Development.

The right candidate must be comfortable working in-office every day for the onboarding process (1-2 months) then will be able to transition into a hybrid schedule (2-3 days in our New York City Office per week).

Overall Responsibilities:

  • Packaging Design: Research, develop, and design packaging solutions for body and face skincare products, considering functionality, branding, and sustainability. Guide Global Product Marketing in new product briefs. Collaborate with packaging design team to form feasible innovative solutions.
  • Material Selection: Collaborate with suppliers to choose appropriate packaging materials, ensuring feasibility and compatibility with formulations and meeting sustainability goals. Actively research new sustainability trends of materials and packaging solutions.
  • Supplier Relationship Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with packaging material suppliers, ensuring timely and reliable delivery of sustainable materials and collaborating on continuous improvement initiatives. Travel to suppliers and manufacturing sites is required (10 – 15% of the time).
  • Quality Assurance: Implement and oversee quality control measures to ensure packaging meets requirements and maintains product integrity. Provide direction to test and evaluate packaging components. Develop and implement testing methods for packaging components and finished goods. Collect and compare measured data to packaging specifications. Maintain our quality expectations according to our brand standards.
  • Quality Control Documents: Manage and maintain quality control documents, including but not limited to standard operating procedures (SOPs) for launch processes, packaging testing and inspection processes.
  • Cost Optimization: Work closely with the procurement team on executing cost-effective packaging solutions without compromising product quality. Implement new and improved processes that will result in effective cost reduction / harmonization programs for new or existing products. Manage programs to completion with focus on packaging lead initiatives.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Collaborate with product development, manufacturing, and marketing teams to understand product requirements and align packaging design accordingly.
  • Innovation: Stay abreast of industry trends and emerging technologies to introduce innovative feasible packaging solutions. Periodically share arising packaging trends to the team.

Job Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Packaging Engineering and 1-5+ years of relevant industry experience.
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience as a process integration, manufacturing, R&D engineer in substrate industry. In-depth knowledge of substrate technology.
  • Familiarity with PKG process & criteria is a plus.
  • Packaging development & project management skills.
  • Strong communication & collaborative skills. Provide timely communication on feasibility of design ideas through testing including risks and its mitigation plan.

  • Conduct feasibility costs and COG analysis
  • Manage project work as necessary or required
  • Organization, meeting coordination, minutes & follow-ups
  • Project Development Timeline preparation and tracking

Functional & Technical Skills

  • Demonstrated design thinking principles and attention to detail to deliver packaging conceptions
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and make calculated risked based decisions in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated experience interpreting bills of materials and writing assembly instructions.

Leadership / Behavioral

  • Strong passion to drive packaging innovation.
  • Project oriented and execution with a sense of urgency.
  • Agile mindset with an ability to anticipate and swiftly problem solve to mitigate risks.

Overall Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with packaging suppliers on alternative proposals for existing materials.
  • Carry out multiple testing and line trials simultaneously to ensure implementation plan remains on track for each initiative while meeting our data-driven quality expectations
  • Provide updates in weekly project-level meetings regarding progress on sample testing, key milestones, risks, and interdependencies.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to support the supply change efforts of varying size and complexity.
  • Oversee/perform regulatory/safety, compatibility, and performance tests.

Salary Range

$90,000—$100,000 USD

In addition to base salary, this position is eligible for participation in a highly competitive bonus program with the possibility for overachievement based on performance and company results.
