PAC and Grassroots Manager

The American Urological Association (AUA), the premier urologic association providing support to the urologic community, is currently searching for an experienced PAC and Grassroots Advocacy Manager. The position is primarily located in our Washington DC office with minimal travel to AUA’s headquarters office in Linthicum, Maryland.

We are required to be in the office on Tuesdays/Wednesdays with remote working on Mondays/Thursdays/Fridays.

In General

Under the general direction and supervision of the Vice President of Public Policy & Political Affairs, this position will successfully develop and execute the strategy, operations, and tactics related to the AUA’s Political Action Committee (AUAPAC). This position is also responsible for collaborating with others in the division to increase grassroots engagement of AUA members in legislative (federal and state), regulatory, research, and patient advocacy initiatives. This position also shares responsibility for planning and executing the Annual Urology Advocacy (AUA) Summit. Finally, the position serves as the liaison to the Policy and Advocacy Resident Work Group, which reports to the Chair of the AUA Public Policy Council.

Typically

The Individual In This Position Will Be

  • Responsible for maintaining all records related to AUAPAC and other advocacy fund contributions utilizing AUA’s technology solution.
    • This includes tracking and managing individual and group contributions to the AUAPAC and other AUA advocacy funds, developing, implementing, and maintaining donor recognition/champion programs, managing and updating AUAPAC web content, and planning, coordinating, executing AUAPAC events, and working collaboratively with the Marketing and Communications teams to raise awareness of the AUAPAC and events.
  • Responsible for creative content for all AUAPAC communications, including educational and solicitation materials, annual reports, and newsletters that articulate the AUAPAC’s strategies, value, and key messages.
  • Promoting knowledge of and engagement with the AUAPAC from all eight AUA Sections and related specialty societies
  • Supporting the planning, coordination, and implementation of the AUA Summit.
  • Accountable for developing and cultivating AUA’s nascent grassroots advocacy network of member physicians.
To Be Successful

Role

Candidates must be collaborative and have the ability to execute. It is essential that the individual in this role must be an effective decision maker and have the ability to communicate with physician leaders. The successful candidate will have the ability to manage multiple tasks. In addition:

  • Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in political science, social science, or related field relevant to government or healthcare.
  • A minimum of four years of government relations or project management experience required. Strong project management skills are required. Direct Capitol Hill experience is not required but preferred.
  • Must be well organized, detail-oriented, able to multi-task, and respond effectively to multiple staff members’ requests. Requires strong ability to effectively plan, organize and complete assignments on time.
  • Knowledge of government and regulatory process needed, including campaign finance law.
  • Must have ability to work independently and as part of a team in a collaborative manner under tight deadlines to facilitate the accomplishment of work goals.
  • Excellent communications and interpersonal skills required.
  • Must be able to write clearly, concisely, and accurately and be capable of writing memoranda, drafting correspondence, white papers, and similar materials with limited to no supervision.
  • Familiarity with membership databases and MS Office suite, including, PowerPoint, Excel, etc. required.
  • Flexible work hours (i.e., ability to work before/after core hours when needed).
