Job Summary

The Convergent Systems Research Department is a team of engineers, specialists, and technicians who work collaboratively across the EIT intellectual ecosystem to solve pressing challenges in biomedicine. Our responsibilities span all stages of design including ideation, synthesis, and validation, and establishing SOP's.


As an Organic Chemist, you will lead and contribute to several ongoing and emergent projects at EIT, including the development and design of therapeutic screening tools and the development and synthesis of multi-functional imaging agents. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to optimize utility for the unique healthcare environment.


Job Accountabilities:

The Organic Chemist is responsible for performing the following job duties:

  • Design, synthesize, and purify organic and inorganic compounds for biological and medicinal applications
  • Independently identify and use analytical tools to assess chemical and physical properties and interpret data to gain reaction understanding
  • Establish a strong laboratory presence (leading from the bench), serve as an expert in the laboratory, executing on program and chemistry strategy, and provide scientific mentoring and technical training of team members
  • Conduct root cause analysis to troubleshoot and resolve issues
  • Using available data sets and in silico tools to generate novel, testable hypotheses and target molecules to enable clear decision making
  • Lead and/or contribute to multiple chemistry projects simultaneously from the earliest stages through to clinical development.
  • Peer review notebooks, analytical methods, deviations, protocols, reports, SOPs and any other lab document.
  • Prepare presentation materials and clearly communicate research results to manager and at internal/external meetings
  • Define and implement project plans with clearly defined milestones
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify emerging opportunities and develop innovative solutions


ADDITIONAL INFORMATION


Required Education: MS degree in Chemistry or related field


Required Experience: 3-5 yrs


Required Field of Expertise:

  • Experience performing bioconjugation chemistry and using air-sensitive synthetic methods for solid and solution-phase chemistry, experience using silico methods for molecular design
  • Experience with the selection and application of appropriate purification techniques (eg flash chromatography and HPLC) and analytical tools (eg LCMS and NMR) to support execution of synthetic routes
  • Experience selecting and using analytical instrumentation and methods to assess photophysical response (eg UV-Vis, Fluorimetry)
  • Experience designing and performing bioactivity/biotoxicity measurements
  • Strong skills in troubleshooting synthetic reactions and lab instrumentation
  • Experience writing research reports and detailed reaction procedures.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team effectively. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Succinct but thorough communication skills with attention to detail, analytical/critical thinking, and data organization, presentation, and inference.
  • Ability to meet multiple deadlines across a variety of projects/programs with a high degree of accuracy and efficiency


Preferred Education: PhD in Chemistry or related field


Preferred Experience: 3-5 yrs


Preferred Field of Expertise:

  • Demonstrated experience with mammalian cell culture
  • Demonstrated experience with optical microscopy, especially fluorescence microscopy
  • Demonstrated experience in automation of data analysis


Salary: $123,000 - $136,806
