The Department of Enterprise Services (DES), Building Services Division is looking for a Maintenance & Operations Superintendent to take charge and motivate subordinates to:

  1. Administer programs relating to the overall maintenance, repair and technical operations for buildings, theaters and related facilities for public assembly events, and
  2. Oversee the provision of skilled trades support for the Honolulu Zoo and six municipal golf courses.


DES manages the Neal S. Blaisdell Center, Tom Moffatt Waikiki Shell, Honolulu Zoo and six municipal golf courses. These properties are open to the public and generate revenue for the City. Therefore, extra love and care are needed to ensure the facilities are safe, clean and well-maintained for visitors of all ages. You must be able to plan, direct and coordinate building and equipment maintenance, and repair programs.

Responsibilities include:

  • Determining a budget for long and short term objectives and providing justification for the budget in writing and before a panel in a public setting.
  • Take care of your subordinates and resolve personnel issues that may arise.
  • Keep the Blaisdell Center and Tom Moffatt Waikiki Shell clean and maintained in order to keep our existing tenants happy and encourage new tenant to use the DES facilities!

Salary: $9,142 Monthly

EDUCATION REQUIREMENT:

Equivalent to graduation from a regionally-accredited college or university with major work in business administration, public administration, engineering or a related field. Work experience may be substituted for a bachelor's degree on a year-for-year basis. Such experience must have provided the knowledge, skills, and analytical ability normally gained from attainment of a bachelor's degree.


EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:

Three years of experience in administering and/or supervising a variety of building maintenance, repair and construction work. Such experience must have demonstrated knowledge of:

  • principles and practices of administration, organization, personnel administration and budget formulation;
  • electrical, mechanical, and air conditioning systems and equipment used in large building structures;
  • laws, codes, ordinances and regulations governing building construction and maintenance work;
  • principles and techniques of public relations; and
  • occupational hazards and safety practices.
