Vital Energy has an opening for an Operations Geologist in our Tulsa Office. This position will report to the Manager of Development & Planning and is responsible for working within a multiple disciplinary team to plan, execute, and evaluate drilling projects in the company’s inventory. The successful candidate will be responsible for the evaluation and quality control of real-time geoscience data and using that information to guide decision making. The candidate will also direct geoscience contractors.
Principal Duties And Responsibilities
Subsurface interpretation, generating maps and cross sections
Oil and gas property evaluation
Deliver geologic insight and interpretation for daily drilling and completion operations
Manage geological and geophysical projects and contractors
Plan and execute drilling projects from location inventory
Provide geologic understanding for all aspects of the prospect lifecycle (appraisal, drilling, production, and abandonment)
Assist in well performance and lookback analysis
Evaluate behind pipe pay potential for uneconomic wells
Evaluate and recommend emerging technologies to improve business performance
Quality control of real-time geologic data
Occasional field visits to observe and monitor operations
Education, Knowledge And Skills
Two plus (2+) years Petroleum Geology experience
Master’s Degree in Geology preferred
Permian Basin experience preferred
Experience with well operations and reservoir characterization
Experience with geoscience interpretation software, Enverus Subsurface Studio and StarSteer preferred
Effective team player who takes an active role in team responsibilities
Strong time management skills
Capacity to work with minimum supervision
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Capability to work on multiple tasks
Confidence to make informed decisions based on imperfect datasets

Compensation
Salary is commensurate with experience.
Working Conditions
Work is normally performed in a climate-controlled environment, where exposure to conditions of extreme heat/cold, poor ventilation, fumes and gases is very limited. Noise level is moderate and includes sounds of a normal office environment. No environmental hazards are encountered in performance of normal job duties. Occasional visits to site of operations.
Physical Demands
Work normally requires finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination to operate computer keyboard at moderate skill level. Work may require occasional pushing, pulling, or carrying 20-pound objects such as files, documents, boxes, etc. Work involves sitting most of the time but may involve standing and walking for brief periods.
