Oklahoma Connections Academy (OKCA) is a tuition-free, online public school serving student in grades K–12 throughout Oklahoma. OKCA is authorized by the Oklahoma Statewide Virtual Charter School Board and governed by an independent Board of Directors. OKCA is accredited by the North Central Association Commission on Accreditation and School Improvement, an accrediting division of AdvancED.

Position Summary And Responsibilities

The CTE/CR School Counselor is responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive career readiness program. This includes developing and overseeing CTE programs and pathways, managing dual enrollment and internship opportunities, and supporting and assisting students and parents concerning college readiness, career pathways, and scholarship information toward application, enrollment, and placement in postsecondary opportunities. The CTE/CR School counselor also facilitates partnerships with parents, businesses/industry, postsecondary institutions, and community organizations to support students’ successful transition to postsecondary education and employment.

Duties Include

  • Manages career readiness programming for all students.
  • Recruit students for available CTE programs of study.
  • Coordinates career planning activities.
  • Assists students with course selections as it pertains to CTE and career/graduation planning.
  • Create, Develop, and maintain positive relationships/partnerships with businesses, industry, education, and military communities that provide opportunities for students.
  • Recruit new businesses and organizations to provide quality work-based and school-based learning opportunities for students; serve as the liaison between the center and business and industry.
  • Coordinate Cooperative Education, Internships, Job Shadowing, Service Learning, and other Work-Based Learning programs offered through the Technology Center that relate to worksite learning.
  • Develops and oversees work-based learning opportunities.
  • Assist with student career development through career clusters, extended learning opportunities, and employability skills.
  • Markets CTE programs and partnership.
  • Participates in local, regional, state, and national professional development activities to remain current with emerging demands, trends, and careers in a rapidly changing workforce.
  • Works to prevent students from dropping out of school.
  • Remains readily available to students to provide counseling that will lead each student to increased personal growth, self-understanding, and maturity.
  • Plans field trips to schools, colleges, and industry for interested students.
  • Provide academic, personal, and career counseling services.
  • Monitor and track students' academic progress to ensure educational and career goals are attained.
  • Other related duties as assigned.
  • Supervise Students and parents in preparing and processing college, scholarship, FAFSA, and employment applications.

  • Ability to coordinate, design, structure, and integrate school-based and work-based instruction.
  • Ability to develop, supervise, and complete projects.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability and/or experience to network and collaborate at all levels.
  • Use of computer software for work production, student management, and communication.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university required.
  • Oklahoma Teaching certification required.
  • Knowledge of CTE Program preferred.
  • CTE Teaching Certification in one or more areas preferred.
  • School Counseling and/or high school post secondary experience preferred.
