Summary:

The Project Engineer will oversee Summit Ridge Energy’s growing portfolio of distributed generation solar projects across the United States and maximize the performance of all generating assets under management. This position reports to the Director of Operations and Maintenance and helps the Asset Management team to achieve day-to-day financial and operating performance.


The Project Engineer will need to have a strong base of knowledge about renewable energy operations in the US. To be successful in the role, this person will need to be able to understand and communicate complex technical data, understand the operations and optimization of solar assets, interpret contracts and legal documents, and adhere to best practices and processes.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage Third-party O&M Providers and ensure delivery of contractual obligations (annual availability calculations, reporting data, prevailing wage documentation, etc.)
  • Provide oversight of solar and BESS operations to ensure optimal generation of assets
  • Manage the day-to-day operations of assets to achieve key performance, availability, and financial targets
  • Oversee each market operations and maintenance strategy, including vendor selection and management
  • Provide and present daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports to internal management and strategic investors to review overall performance and strategic initiatives
  • Formulate and oversee the spare parts strategy across the fleet to ensure the availability of parts while optimizing for the financial cost of purchasing, storing, and shipping
  • Monitor operational performance reports; investigate major plant outages and influence resolution to minimize outages and support insurance claims
  • Develop and maintain each system life cycle operations and maintenance plan, which includes key performance standards for each site, compliance requirements, expected maintenance, both planned and unplanned, and cost to achieve
  • Interface with the origination, development, project finance, and operations groups with feedback on best practices and lessons learned through operations
  • Work with the construction team during system testing and construction completion to ensure effective transition to asset management and full operational performance including ASC modeling submission, DAS configuration review, review of commissioning docs, and underperformance analysis.
  • Perform project evaluations and audits to make recommendations in support of plant optimization, performance improvement, warranty claims, and revenue recovery
  • Manage delivery of O&M Agreements, O&M consents, and bilateral documentation at project closing milestones
  • Travel to project sites and development sites as determined by Supervisor.
  • Assisting in running RFPs for future projects, portfolios, and markets.


Required Skills/Competencies:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Environmental Sciences, Business, or another related major
  • 2-3 plus years of experience in solar plant operations in the US Market
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to succinctly summarize complex financial and technical issues, both in writing and verbally
  • Ability to organize and manage workflows across different teams and individuals
  • Advanced computer skills, including PowerPoint, Word, and especially Excel
  • Entrepreneurial spirit. Able to identify and execute new opportunities to add value
  • Able to manage conflicting deadlines and ability to handle multiple tasks, prioritize, and maintain a calm and positive attitude
  • Project Management skills coupled with organization, flexibility, and strong attention to detail
  • The ability to work independently and as a team member is critical, as well as the desire to operate as an important contributor within a fast-paced company environment.
  • Authorized to work in the US.


Preferred Skills/Competencies:

  • Understanding of PV systems, design, operation, management, and financing
  • Experience with distributed generation regulated market programs and compliance a plus
  • Prior experience in a project development, business administration, asset management, contract administration, deal execution, project finance or other commercial roles are a plus
