Neuroscientist - Professional Research series, Krogan lab at UCSF

The lab of Professor Nevan Krogan at the University of California, San Francisco is recruiting a basic science full-time Researcher position with experience in neuroscience and cell/molecular biology. The Krogan lab applies Systems Biology approaches such as proteomics and functional genomics, as well as biochemistry, computational biology, and bioinformatics to unravel the molecular networks underpinning neurodevelopmental/psychiatric and neurodegenerative diseases, as well as cancer and infectious diseases. Our current neuroscience projects include research on tauopathies, pain, autism spectrum disorder, schizophrenia, and others. Our projects leverage a wide array of experimental approaches with a collaborative infrastructure necessary for long-term investigation.

We are looking for a highly motivated, innovative scientist for the Professional Researcher series with a keen interest in investigating molecular networks in neuropsychiatric and neurodegenerative disorders. This role is an excellent opportunity to learn a number of valuable, cutting-edge techniques while working with an ambitious and friendly research team. Our ideal applicant is a problem solver with a positive attitude, excellent organizational and interpersonal skills, and the ability to learn and implement methodology efficiently. Additionally, they will have strong written, verbal, and presentation skills and an ability to communicate and work in an interdisciplinary team environment.

Required Qualifications

  • PhD and postdoctoral experience in Neuroscience, Cell/Molecular Biology or related fields
  • Experience in handling of iPSCs and neuronal differentiation
  • Extensive experience in designing and executing molecular biology experiments, cell culture optimization and cell-based assays.
  • Demonstrated high productivity and successful publishing record
  • Experience managing or participating in collaborative projects among multiple laboratories.
  • Excellent teamwork skills and the ability to communicate effectively and collaboratively with students, postdoctoral fellows, staff, and faculty
  • Experience writing research proposals and peer-reviewed manuscripts for publication.
  • Candidates must meet all the Required Qualifications by the time of appointment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Track record of independent research
  • Completion of post-doctoral fellowship Other preferred qualifications
  • Demonstrated understanding of large-scale proteomics data and placing it in a biological context
  • Experience in handling large scale data.
  • Computational programming skills in R or similar language
  • Experience teaching, mentoring students and trainees
