Network Engineer

The Network Engineer reports to the Senior Director of Information Technology. This role is responsible for designing, managing, supporting, securing, and providing consultation for the complex network and telecommunications infrastructure components that are critical to the operation of the Navy Pier’s wired and wireless networks. The Network Engineer will work closely with the IT team and external vendors to deliver reliable and efficient network solutions. Secondarily, the role’s responsibility will be to work in conjunction with Navy Pier support partners on different facets of Navy Pier servers, security permissions, and systems.

Key Duties And Responsibilities

  • Designing, implementing, maintaining, and supporting all network and internet infrastructure for all wired and wireless network components utilized by internal users and event customers.
  • Identifies network system and security problems, determines, and implements corrective actions.
  • Makes recommendations to management for software/hardware enhancements based upon study and analysis of current environment.
  • Serves as the administrator to all network and application security access changes and permissions.
  • Assists helpdesk personnel in providing support when required.
  • Analyzes, forecasts, and makes recommendations regarding the Navy Pier’s network environment.
  • Develops clear and concise comprehensive studies, reports, and agenda items.
  • Writes and maintains functional specifications and detailed documentation for new, modified, and existing systems.
  • Establishes and maintains effective relations with other partners including Navy Pier tenants, Event management, operational staff, and vendors.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.


Qualifications

Education And Work Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related field or equivalent
  • Minimum of seven (7) years of increasing responsibility in support of complex networks with an emphasis on Cisco and Meraki switches, routers, controllers, wireless infrastructure etc.


Technical Skills And Abilities

  • Requires 7+ years of experience supporting and troubleshooting complex wired and wireless network infrastructures.
  • Requires 3-5 years of experience with Cisco Catalyst 3700/3800/9300/ and Nexus 9000 switches, Cisco firewalls/routers (Managed by Firepower), and Meraki networks (Wi-Fi & switches)
  • Requires experience working with out-sourced technology services providers and the integration of in-house and outsourced technology interfaces.
  • Verifiable expertise with Subnets, IP Addressing, DHCP, DNS, and Internet WAN connectivity and routing and troubleshooting
  • Preferred at least 3 years of experience with Microsoft Active Directory and/or Office 365 environments
  • Experience with bandwidth shaping appliances or systems. Preferably with Blue Coat Packetshaper.
  • Managing the components within MDFs and IDFs.
  • Preferred experience with Avaya and other SIP telecommunication systems
  • Preferred experience with VoIP systems
  • Ability to communicate professionally with potential clients and function as liaison to sales staff by aiding with IT inquiries for Navy Pier events
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal skills, and a commitment to quality and customer service.

Required:

CCNA or Network +

Preferred: CCNP CCNA Wireless CCDA

Hours Of Work And Travel Requirements

This position will, at a minimum, work standard business hours, but the candidate will also be required to work off-schedule hours including holidays and weekends.
