REPORTS TO: Director of I.T.

SUMMARY: The Network Administrator (NA) is responsible for maintaining, securing, and monitoring the networks and systems of the IT infrastructure. The NA establishes and maintains network performance by building and maintaining net configurations and connections; troubleshooting network problems. This individual ensures the stable operation of the network. Deep technological expertise with a wide range of computer systems, hardware, and software are essential.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Minimum three year experience in a network position
  • Requires Supervisory skills; management skills, such as planning and organizing; strong oral and written communication skills; and the ability to train new employees
  • Experience with Windows and Linux suite support
  • Experience in Windows Server environments, data center, and cloud operations
  • 3 years Job-related experience
  • Experience in project management and cloud computing
  • Experience in Configuring Switches/Routers/Access Points
  • Experience supporting WAN/LAN and Wifi Environments
  • Network+ or Equivalent Professional Certificate

Preferred Qualifications

  • A degree in Computer related field
  • Knowledge of Aruba/HPE and Cisco Equipment is preferred
  • Firewall Experience
  • 3 years’ experience supporting systems in a public school environment
  • 5 years Job-related experience
  • Security+ or Equivalent Certificate

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Establishes a networking environment by designing system configurations; directing system installation; defining, documenting, and enforcing system standards.
  • Maximizes network performance by monitoring performance; troubleshooting network problems and outages; scheduling upgrades; collaborating on network optimization.
  • Secures network systems by establishing and enforcing policies; defining and monitoring access.
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; and participating in professional organizations.
  • Accomplishes information systems and organization mission by completing related results as needed.
  • Oversees the district’s surveillance system and operations.
  • Reporting network operational status by gathering, prioritizing information; managing projects.
  • Administer Local Area Network operations.
  • Administer WiFi Networks
  • Assist in Wide Area Network operations as directed by senior network staff.
  • Assists in administering systems and services related to district LAN and WAN (e.g. Email system, phone accounts, print queue, workstation ID, IP assignments, computer labs, classroom computers, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring availability of services to authorized users.
  • Assists in repairing network-related hardware (e.g. computers, peripherals, and network equipment) for the purpose of maintaining computer and network equipment in a safe and functional operating condition.
  • Assists in maintaining network operations, computer hardware, and/or software applications for the purpose of ensuring efficient program operations at District Office and school sites.
  • Support mission critical accounting, payroll, HR, foodservices, and transportation and demographic planning applications and their end users.
  • Maintains, analyzes, troubleshoots, and repairs server systems, hardware and computer peripherals.
  • Prepare and present training on new systems and cross training to other members of the IT department and other district staff as needed.
  • Documents, maintains, upgrades or replaces network systems.
  • Assists with planning and implementation of future systems.
  • Assesses and recommends changes to systems for increased efficiency and/or uptime.
  • Assesses network hardware and/or software applications and/or malfunctions for the purpose of determining appropriate actions to maintain computer and network operations.
  • Familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures.
  • Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of complicated tasks.
  • May lead and direct the work of others.
  • Typically reports to a project leader or manager.
  • A wide degree of creativity and self-direction is expected.
  • Establish and maintain good rapport with students, employees, community members and vendors.
  • Participate in team based design projects
  • Maintains a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning, as may be assigned by the Superintendent/Designee.
  • Participate in on-call off hour network support rotation.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned

Skills, Knowledge And Abilities

Skills are required to perform multiple, technical tasks with an occasional need to upgrade skills to maintain an acceptable level of performance due to changing job conditions: Specific skills required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: a variety of position-specific skills.

Knowledge is required to perform algebra and/or geometry, create and/or compose documents; analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions. Specific knowledge required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job includes: knowledge of standard practices and the materials/tools used in the building and mechanical trades; hazards involved and safety precautions necessary in building and grounds maintenance; principles of supervision.

Ability is required to plan, organize, control and effectively supervise the work staff; interpret blueprints, sketches and oral and written instructions; prepare time, material and cost estimates; work and communicate with both internal and external customers; display a high standard of ethical conduct; exhibit honesty and integrity, demonstrate a high level of initiative, effort and commitment toward completing assignments efficiently; demonstrate responsible behavior and attention to detail; respond appropriately to supervision; align behavior with the needs, priorities and goals of the District; encourage and facilitate cooperation, pride, trust and group identity. Ability is also required to work a significant diversity of individuals and/or groups. Specific abilities required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: follow safety guidelines and procedures; meet deadlines and schedules under time constraints.

Responsibility

Responsibilities include: working under limited supervision, focusing primarily on results, directing others within a department, large work unit and/or across several small work units; and monitoring the use of labor hours, assignments and funds. Significant utilization of resources from other work units is required to perform the job’s functions. There is an opportunity to significantly impact the organization’s services.

Work Environment

The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands: significant lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling; significant climbing and balancing; significant stooping, kneeling, crouching and/or crawling; significant reaching, handling, fingering and/or feeling. Generally the job requires 30% sitting, 40% walking and 30% standing. The job is performed under some temperature extremes, some hazardous conditions (e.g.; mechanical, cuts, burns, infectious disease, high-decibel noise, etc.) and in varying atmospheric conditions.
