Our mission is to collect, analyze, and map data on armed conflicts, making both our data and analysis freely accessible to the public. Our work is widely utilized by journalists, researchers, policymakers, and practitioners to inform discourse and action on global conflicts and protests.
The Role
We are currently seeking a dedicated Myanmar Researcher to join our team. As a researcher, you will play a crucial role in collecting, reviewing, and managing data on political violence and protests across Myanmar. This fully remote position requires 35 to 40 hours per week and is open to candidates from any location with reliable internet access. This opportunity serves as an entry-level contractor position.
Your Responsibilities Will Include
Collecting data by reviewing news, international organization reports, and NGO publications.
Recording incidents of political violence in an Excel template.
Reviewing and managing data to ensure quality, consistency, and reliability.
Undertaking detail-oriented tasks and managing quantitative data.
Please note that this role involves working with conflict-related media and reading about violent events.
Specific Roles and Responsibilities
Selected candidates will undergo comprehensive training provided by our team. The initial consultancy period is from 1 June 2024 to 30 June 2025, with possible continuation based on performance and funding availability.
Skills and Competencies
We Are Looking For Applicants With The Following Qualifications
University degree in conflict studies, peacebuilding, international development, or a related field.
Familiarity with Excel.
Fluency in English and Burmese (essential).
Working Knowledge Of Another Asian Language (preferred).
Experience in desk-based research and working to deadlines.
Attention to detail and ability to receive feedback.
Research focus or professional experience in conflict research or peace-building in East Asia.
Access to a computer, reliable internet, and Microsoft Office Suite.
