Responsibilities include teaching four sections of Middle School Dance, one section of Upper School Dance, choreographing musical theater shows, serving as an academic advisor for middle school students, and actively participating in the Arts Department.
Essential Functions & Tasks
- Teach Ballet, Tap, Contemporary, and Theatrical dance genres.
- Prioritize student health and safety in dance movements.
- Innovate and evolve the Dance Curriculum.
- Collaborate with Arts professionals to align and integrate curriculum across grade levels.
- Implement diverse teaching strategies to accommodate various learning styles.
- Advise middle school students on academic and social progress.
- Utilize technology to support and differentiate instruction.
- Employ multiple teaching methodologies.
- Manage classroom behavior by establishing community norms.
- Foster positive social skills and community core values through developmentally appropriate curriculum.
- Collaborate with Grade Level Team to plan activities and discuss student progress.
- Participate in department, school, and parent meetings.
- Set and communicate clear objectives for learning activities.
- Observe and evaluate student performance, providing timely feedback.
- Demonstrate preparation and skill in working with diverse student backgrounds.
- Perform supervisory duties as assigned.
- Engage in continual professional growth within a dynamic learning community.
- BFA or BA degree in Dance Education required; MFA or MA preferred.
- Teaching experience in independent schools or relevant classroom experience, especially at the middle school level, is recommended.
- Manage and navigate costume inventory for Dance students.
- Lifelong learner, adaptable to new environments.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Willingness to work long hours as needed.
- Capable of lifting up to 30 pounds occasionally.
- Adaptable to varied and changing weather conditions, including extreme heat.
