Salem Montessori School, a successful and established institution serving infants through middle school in Salem, Virginia, seeks a qualified and dedicated Upper Elementary Teacher to join our vibrant community. What You'll Do:
Plan, Prepare, and Instruct:
Develop and implement instruction aligned with Salem Montessori School's curriculum and philosophy
Commit to learning and utilizing the Montessori method to deliver engaging lessons tailored to individual and small-group needs
Foster cognitive, emotional, social, physical, and spiritual growth through varied activities and experiences
Maintain accurate records of student’s progress and lesson plans
Classroom Environment/Management:
Create a warm, accepting, and orderly classroom environment conducive to learning and independence
Provide firm but loving guidance, modeling grace, courtesy, cooperation, and responsibility principles
Ensure cleanliness and organization of the classroom and materials, adhering to safety standards
Coordinate daily maintenance tasks and supply replenishment
Communication:
Effectively communicate school mission, policies, and expectations to staff, parents, and students
Conduct parent/teacher conferences and provide regular updates on student progress
Collaborate with the administration team on parent correspondence and school initiatives
Maintain confidentiality regarding sensitive information and issues
Professional Responsibilities:
Commit to learning the Montessori philosophy and, if not certified, work diligently to obtain certification within the first two years
Engage in ongoing self-assessment and professional growth
Participate in evaluation processes and set professional goals
Attend relevant professional development opportunities and activities
Collaborate with colleagues to share responsibilities and provide constructive feedback
Attend staff & training meetings
Related Duties:
Adhere to school policies, procedures, and regulations
Maintain CPR and First Aid certification
Participate in school events and meetings as required
Fulfill other duties as assigned by school leadership
Serve as the main point of contact for the Head of School and School Directress for all Upper Elementary School needs and concerns

Physical stamina to meet classroom demands (including but not limited to repetitive bending, stretching, lifting up to 40 lbs, etc.)
Be a dependable, mature, and committed individual with a positive attitude

Required Qualifications:
Five years of experience working with elementary-aged students
Bachelor’s Degree in education or a related field (preference in education)
Proficient in developmentally appropriate practices for elementary education
Preferred:
A valid Montessori teaching credential (AMI or AMS preferred) or a willingness to pursue and complete Montessori certification over the next 2 years. Certification will be paid by Salem Montessori School

Minimum Starting Salary: $42,500 for the Academic School Year (10 months) with the ability to earn additional income facilitating summer programs.
