MLC Student Ambassador (Volunteer Program for College Students)

THE MLC STUDENT AMBASSADOR PROGRAM

  • The MLC Student Ambassador program provides college and university students the opportunity to earn the designation "MLC Student Ambassador" through an assessment of their knowledge about The MLC, and commitment to continued dissemination of information about The MLC.
  • MLC Student Ambassadors enjoy a variety of benefits, described below.
  • There is no cost to participate in the program, and there are no geographic requirements or limitations.
  • MLC Student Ambassadors access our exclusive online Student Ambassador "course" on the Moodle learning platform in order to keep track of their activities.
  • MLC Student Ambassadors are not employees or independent contractors of The MLC. There is no compensation paid by The MLC to Student Ambassadors.
  • MLC Student Ambassadors may not hold themselves out as though they are employees of The MLC.

PROGRAM ELIGIBILITY

  • The MLC Student Ambassador program is available exclusively to students who are currently enrolled in college or university courses. There is no limit to how many we may have from any one school.
  • Proof of enrollment status must be submitted as part of the application.

PROGRAM BENEFITS

  • Students gain invaluable knowledge about The MLC and help songwriters get paid.
  • Students accepted into the program are permitted to use the "MLC Student Ambassador" designation, followed by the academic semester or quarter it is active for (e.g., Fall 2024), on their resume, in their bio, and on their social media profiles.
  • MLC Student Ambassadors are given access to digital and physical assets that can be used to help spread the word ab
  • out The MLC to potential members.
  • MLC Student Ambassadors are invited to exclusive events designed specifically for Student Ambassadors.
  • MLC Student Ambassadors receive free MLC merchandise.
  • MLC Student Ambassadors have their resume included in a special resume book we prepare and share with other music industry HR leaders at other companies.
  • MLC Student Ambassadors are guaranteed to be invited to an interview if they choose to apply to an internship position at The MLC.
  • MLC Student Ambassadors can participate in The MLC's Educational Event Support Program.

PROGRAM OBLIGATIONS AND RENEWALS

  • MLC Student Ambassadors must help spread the word about The MLC to songwriters, composers, and lyricists in their local communities. This is done through a variety of specific activities. Student Ambassadors are provided with a syllabus for the program which includes weekly tasks. These tasks include:
    • One-on-one conversations with songwriters, composers, or lyricists the student is able to connect to via their network or classes. (3 per academic period)
    • Posts on Instagram (4 per academic period). MLC Student Ambassadors must follow/like The MLC on Instagram and tag us and use the hashtag #theMLCedu in their posts.
    • Creating a promotional video (1 per academic period)
    • Providing The MLC with campus/local upcoming Event information (1 per academic period)
    • Putting up posters about The MLC on their campus, where permitted
PROGRAM TIMELINE

  • The MLC Student Ambassador designation is valid for one academic period (an academic semester or quarter).
  • For the first academic period, a Student Ambassador is granted the designation based on a knowledge assessment and their commitment to complete the required tasks in the current academic period.
  • For subsequent academic periods, a Student Ambassador is granted a renewal of the designation if they met the requirements in the prior academic period, and commit to continuing in the program.
  • Student Ambassadors will be able to submit a simple online Renewal Application at the start of each academic period.

HOW TO APPLY

  • Applicants must complete the information below in the section labeled Apply for this Job
  • Be sure to use either your .edu email address, or a personal one (e.g. gmail.com), not an address at another company.
  • Once an applicant's eligibility is verified, they are provided with access to informational materials.
  • Applicants are then given 5 days to complete a video assessment of their knowledge regarding the educational material. This is done through our hiring platforms Greenhouse and Spark Hire.
  • VERY IMPORTANT – INSTEAD OF submitting a cover letter below, applicants are required to submit a PDF with proof of their enrollment status for the academic semester or quarter for which you are applying. See the schedule below. This should be a PDF comprised of a screen shot from the course registration system at the student's institution. The student's name and the semester or quarter must be visible in the screen shot.
  • Applicants will also be presented with optional EEOC (Equal Employment Opportunity Commission) questions, even though this is not an employment position. We would like to gather demographics information about our Educator Ambassadors, but answering these questions is voluntary.

  • If you apply late and begin the program late, you will have to quickly catch up on the weekly assignments that began at the start of the period.
