Mine Operations General Supervisor

The Manh Choh Project is a greenfield gold deposit in eastern Alaska being developed with ore being hauled to Kinross’ Fort Knox mine north of Fairbanks for processing. The mine site is located in the Tetlin Hills, approximately 250 miles southeast of Fort Knox and 10 miles southeast of Tok. Production is expected to begin in 2024.

Job Summary

Responsible for maintaining safe and efficient day-to-day operations of the site, including the following areas: Mining, Water Collection and Treatment, and general site support. This is a hands-on role, it will include tasks such as operating support equipment, pumps, and generators, minor servicing of equipment, operation of pumps and valves, monitoring of water levels, and other various tasks in addition to providing oversight of the mine operation in coordination with the Mine Operations Superintendent.

Essential Functions

  • Provide oversight of the mining business partners, supporting them to meet the monthly mine plan.
  • Ensure the mining business partner is adhering to Kinross standards and quality levels.
  • Perform daily mine tours to identify possible safety or operational risks.
  • Work with Safety and Environmental department personnel to identify, correct and record safety defects.
  • Work with the Technical Services team on development and achievement of daily, weekly and monthly mine plans.
  • Work with the Ore Transportation team to facilitate efficient operations at the Ore Loadout.
  • Direct and supervise water treatment plant activities including defining and delegating work assignments to ensure safe, productive, and efficient operation to meet mine water management goals.
  • Ensures that prescribed protocols for water collection and pumping systems, water treatment plant, and fuel island are followed.
  • Ensure that water management and fuel island equipment are maintained in good condition and initiate work orders as required.
  • Ensures that the site water collection and storage facility are operated and maintained as per the site SWPPP.
  • Assist the Mine Operations Superintendent and Ore Transport General Foreman with their duties as necessary.
  • Monitor, manage, and report on water management inventories as required, and follow up on discrepancies.
  • Comply with established SPCC permit and quality standards related to the Storm Water permit.
  • Maintain accurate records of water treatment plant operational data.
  • Work with business partners and contractors to complete project work as required.
  • Ensure operating supply stock is available and requisition materials, supplies, and equipment for routine and project activities as needed.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly work environment.
  • Participate in planned safety inspections and follow through on any issues that need to be addressed.
  • Adhere to all safety and environmental procedures and regulations. Wear personal protective equipment while in the production environment. Be alert and observe, report and correct unsafe conditions.
  • Work with peers to develop policies and procedures as necessary.
  • Report, investigate, analyze, and supervise the documentation of accidents, injuries, and equipment damage, and recommend prevention strategies as necessary.
  • Punctuality and regular attendance are required.
  • Meet or exceed established performance expectations set by management.
  • Compliance with all company policies and procedures including but not limited to safety, confidentiality, and environmental policies.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license issued by the state.
  • Work safely in all areas and identify potential safety hazards and work with management to correct them.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications And Skill Requirements

Education

  • High School diploma or equivalent

Experience

  • Able to work alone, while still maintaining communication with colleagues.
  • Good working knowledge and skills with a P.C. utilizing word processing and spreadsheet programs including Excel is preferred.
  • Basic understanding the operation of mine pumping systems and water treatment plants.
  • Basic technical ability to troubleshoot water management and fuel island equipment (pumps, piping and pipe repairs, and basic generator issues).
  • Work ethic that demonstrates by example, how to achieve production goals.
  • Must have solid verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be a self-starter with the ability to work with others in a team environment.
  • Ability to function within the qualifications outlined in the attached physical demands sheets.
  • Must be available for flexible work schedules, including holidays and weekends.
