Lake Ridge Academy is seeking a Middle/Upper School Spanish teacher for the 2024-2025 school year. As an LRA World Language Department member, the teacher is responsible for teaching a variety of levels of Spanish language and culture. Candidates must be comfortable designing and delivering developmentally appropriate, engaging lessons for students in middle school through 12th grade. We welcome culturally literate applicants who are passionate about the Spanish language and Hispanic cultures. Candidates should have native or near-native fluency and a strong commitment to and love for working with students. Excellent communication skills and a willingness to contribute to a collaborative and close-knit teaching environment are a must.
Salary is commensurate with that of other independent schools in the Midwest.

Primary Job Functions
- Teach a Variety of Courses: Including middle school Spanish and higher level upper school Spanish courses.
- Facilitate Hands-On Learning: Provide engaging and interactive classroom experiences, including hands-on activities and immersive classroom opportunities.
- Offer Individualized Support: Dedicate time outside of class to meet with students individually, providing guidance, clarification, and additional assistance as needed.
- Serve as Advisor: Act as an advisor to a cohort of 8-10 upper school students, offering mentorship and support in both academic and personal growth.
- Contribute to Extracurricular Life: Enrich the school community by participating in extracurricular activities, such as supporting House events, sponsoring a club, or engaging in other campus initiatives.
- Collaborate with Colleagues: Participate actively in faculty committees, meetings, and professional development opportunities, contributing your insights and expertise to the school community.
- Educational Background: Hold a Bachelor’s degree in Spanish, Education, or a related field, demonstrating a strong foundation in language education principles.
- Skillset: Effective fluency in the Spanish language, orally, aurally, and in writing and an understanding of the developmental norms associated with a Middle/Upper age group
- Commitment to Professional Growth: Show a strong commitment to ongoing professional development, staying abreast of current trends and best practices in mathematics education.
- Teaching Experience: Proven success with classroom teaching, including curriculum design and implementation, student engagement, family reporting, and collegial relationships
- Community: a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion and a dedication to being a part of an independent school community.
- Advanced Degree: Hold a Master’s degree in Spanish, Education, or a related field, demonstrating a strong foundation in language education principles.
- Teaching Experience: Bring 3-5 years of teaching experience in an upper school setting, preferably within independent schools, with a proven track record of success.
- Athletic Engagement: Possess experience and interest in coaching athletics at the high school or middle school level, contributing to the holistic development of students.
