Girard College seeks a certified Music Teacher for our middle school students beginning August 19, 2024. Our teachers implement developmentally appropriate curriculum and instruction aligned to PA State Standards, work collaboratively with teachers in other disciplines as well as residential staff and participate fully in the school’s academic and residential community. The position reports directly to the Principal of the Elementary/Middle School.

Educate students in music that includes diverse genres and styles from various periods and cultures
Provide instruction on proper vocal technique and organize a chorus.
Provide instruction to students using multiple musical instruments.
Organize and drive school performances for Middle School students.

Investment in students and families in order to achieve our standard for academic success, and to meet our Core Values
Utilize data to drive instruction and learning intervention
Design and implement unit and lesson plans in collaboration with grade/subject teams

Collaborate with building leaders, instructional coaches, teacher leaders and colleagues to continuously improve instructional, culture-building and leadership skills
Participate enthusiastically in all professional development, instructional planning, teacher/residential collaborative team meetings, community meetings and MTSS meetings
Function as a school wide partner in helping to raise student achievement and character for all students in the school. Reinforcing school-wide expectations and volunteering to take on additional activities as needed to improve school academics and culture.

Qualifications/Requirements/Education
Education Background and Minimum Requirements:
Teaching experience highly preferred with a proven record of high academic and social achievement
Minimum requirement of a Bachelor’s degree in Education, in the specific core content job area
Must possess a minimum of a Level I Instructional Certificate or above in the content area in which they are teaching from the PA Department of Education or must obtain Instructional Intern Certificate in the content area in which they teach within one year from date of hire. - Music Education PreK-12
Proficient pianist and comfortable instructing in Kodaly, Dalcroze and Orff methodologies and also be multi-instrumentalists
Working knowledge of a variety of music recording, performing software and video recording software is a plus.
