Job Description

This position ensures safe, reliable and efficient operations of Kern River facilities with emphasis placed on the complexity of maintaining a 24-hours-a-day operation. This requires a qualified work force, strong public awareness and solid customer relations.

Responsibilities

Ensures the hiring, retention and development of a qualified and motivated workforce to meet operating needs. Collaborates with employees to meet training needs, develops individual performance plans, monitors employee performance and evaluates results. Provides recommendations for performance-based salary actions including base pay adjustments, incentive awards, and promotions. Ensures the continuous operations of facilities in a safe, efficient and reliable manner including the establishment and timely completion of appropriate maintenance tasks. Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations and laws in areas of pipeline and employee safety, operator qualifications, environmental stewardship, and fair business practices. Supports external compliance audits and Berkshire Hathaway Energy risk management audits as required. Develops and manages operations and maintenance budgets and capital expenditure budgets. Ensures the safe and timely completion of projects and associated work plans in preparation for work that involves the handling of natural gas. Advises the public, first responders, excavating contractors, and public officials of pipeline operations with a focus on preventing incidents and resolving emergency issues. Utilizes and supports regional one-call centers in order to protect Kern River facilities from third party damage. Understands and supports operational requirements of shippers, local distribution companies, common operating partners and industrial customers including power plants. Monitors and approves employee work time, credit card expenditures and expense reports. Procures materials and effectively maintains inventories consistent with operating needs, and company policies and procedures.

Qualifications

A bachelor's degree in engineering, business or other technical field desired, or equivalent combination of education and experience. (Typically six years of related, progressive work experience would be needed for candidates applying for this position who do not possess a bachelor's degree.) Eight years of related experience, including demonstrated progressive levels of leadership responsibility. Knowledge of policies, procedures, practices, operating philosophies and regulations related to the gas transportation industry. Excellent oral and written communication skills, including presentation skills. Knowledge of gas transportation business including operations, relationships and practices. Effective interpersonal and leadership skills including team building, employee development and training, mentoring, coaching, problem resolution and motivating employees. Effective analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills. Project management skills; ability to prioritize and handle multiple issues and projects concurrently. Availability as a resource for problem resolution on a 24-hours-a-day basis. Valid driver's license and ability to drive to remote locations.
