Meteorologist / Multi-Skilled Journalist

WPMT-TV is seeking a dynamic and engaging Meteorologist/Multi-Skilled Journalist with a strong focus on lifestyle forecasting and compelling weather storytelling. The ideal candidate will thrive in sustained severe weather coverage during major events, while also delivering daily audience-focused forecasts that inform and prepare our viewers for the impact of weather on their lives.

As a key member of our weather team, you will be responsible for providing accurate and reliable weather information. This role requires expertise in meteorology and the ability to communicate complex weather information clearly and concisely.

You will play an integral role in severe weather coverage, reaching our audience not only on TV but also online and through social media. The ideal candidate embraces new technology and is eager to explore innovative ways to present the weather story.

Responsibilities

  • Winning weather on all platforms
  • Ability to deliver audience-focused forecasts with impact
  • Strong social media skills, including an active weather presence on Facebook and Instagram
  • Collaboration with other members of our team to produce a superior viewing experience.
  • Ability to build graphics that support your presentation
  • Develop story ideas, write, shoot and edit news stories for on-air broadcasting
  • Write in an exciting, captivating and authentic manner
  • Use the latest editing and photography tools to tell great stories
  • Develop original content through social listening and independent sources
  • Perform special projects and other duties as assigned
  • Make public appearances, coordinate classroom visits, and support WPMT's community service mission

Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience as an On-Air Broadcast Meteorologist
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Meteorology or Atmospheric Science required
  • Experience on WSI Max family of products
  • Availability to work a flexible schedule and fill-in when necessary
  • Engaging personality that lights up all screens
  • AMS/CBM certification preferred
  • Knowledge of shooting, writing and editing stories
