Metallurgical Engineer

We’re looking for a Metallurgical or Materials Science Engineer to support our Melt Shop - Electric Arc Furnace and Argon Oxygen Decarburization areas, our mill located in Calvert, Mobile County, Alabama.


We invite you to explore an exceptional career opportunity, in this role, you will evaluate, implement, monitor, and improve processes and operating systems in the Electric Arc Furnace and Argon Oxygen Decarburization areas for the manufacture of Stainless Steel. Interpretate data from internal sources e.g. intranet databases, process specific operational systems, raw material inventory management system.


Job qualifications and experience requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering in Metallurgical, Material Science, Chemistry, or related field preferred • Knowledge in melting and refining metals

• Ability to processes and taking measurements and data

• Proven knowledge in equipment calibration and maintenance monitoring

• MS Excel proficiency required.

• Excellent analytical and math skill for data gathering and analysis

• Critical Thinking: Strong aptitude for evaluating problems and identifying the most effective solutions.

• Detail orientation; with follow-up and documentation

• Strong interpersonal skills – ability to work with all areas and levels within the organization

Some responsibilities for the role:

• Monitor and improve the efficiency, output, and safety of manufacturing processes for Raw Materials, Electric Arc Furnace and Argon Oxygen Decarburization through observations and measurements, as well as collecting and interpreting data relevant to the EAF/AOD* processes from other technical and operating personnel

• Use historical data to make improvements to Heat schedules as well as mill setup to solve quality problems. Work closely Production Planning and Bucket Loading Specialist for quality control of process materials

• Equipment calibration and maintenance monitoring

• Manage process and capital improvement projects. Develop new and improve current cost-efficient processes and methods that support the company’s goal of time critical and quality-focused stainless-steel production

• Researches the purchase of equipment or upgrades to existing equipment to support operational needs

• Control consumption, yield, and productivity figures

• Create/edit/maintain necessary documentation (e.g. SOP’s, or work instructions)

• Assume responsibility for safety/environmental issues and ongoing performance of processes

• Available to work shifts (day and nights) as initial part of the training period.


Salary range - 88,300-110,400 year
