Metal Trader

The Trader is expected to cultivate new business by growing both supplier and consumer relationships. The Trader collaborates with the trading team and logistics to ensure effective trade execution from opportunity to delivery. The position is ultimately responsible for the financial performance of the book of business that is created. The successful candidate will be comfortable working in a small team, remote environment while maintaining regular communication with all key stakeholders. Requires a high-energy, entrepreneurial self- starter with strong organizational and time management skills.

Responsibilities

Identify, build and maintain relationships with new metal suppliers (processors, dealers, etc.,) and some consumers (e.g. steel mills)

Leverage relationships and market information to appropriate price, buy, and sell materials

Manage monthly position of trades and ensure profitable execution

Collaborate with administration and logistics to ensure accurate and timely documentation of all trades and to monitor logistics execution

Support receivables collection when required

Collect and share market information with the team

Attend industry events or visit customers to help build relationships and business (travel

Provide strong customer service and support resolution of any issues raised by customers

Qualifications

• The ideal candidate will have the following experience and qualifications:
• Two to five years of progressive experience in a trading organization; scrap metal trading experience is a plus
• Excellent communication skills, with a willingness to cold call; ability to influence, negotiate, and engage with a wide range of suppliers and consumers and build long-term relationships.
• Experience managing a trading book of business
• Self-starter with the ability to be a proactive, flexible, and creative problem solver.
• Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail
• Basic fluency in MS product suite (Excel, Word, Outlook)
